I was in the store looking at guns, I live in ******** **, and have a CT license. Before purchasing, I asked the employee that was working with me if my license would be an issue, that I did not want to make an $800 purchase if I would have my license be an issue with that. He assured me that it would be no issue. I said okay, well on the off chance that it is, what happens? and he told me I would get a refund. He never mentioned that it would be 20% less than I paid. Lastly, I asked what do I need in order to be able to purchase a gun, and he said all I need is proof of residency and it does not need to match my license. I provided that. Long story short, I was denied because of my license, which I was assured would be no issue. When I came in for a refund, I was then told I was going to lose $200 of my $800 purchase for a gun I never even touched. When I was told this, they said well its stated at the bottom of the receipt, the receipt that I didn't receive until after the purchase was made. When I wanted to speak to the owner about this, the employees refused to let me, and actually hung up the phone on me, after being extremely rude. This is bad business, and I was given false information which lead to being denied. Now they are trying to keep $200 of mine, because an employee gave me inaccurate information. I want a full refund considering I followed everything that was asked of me, and was told my license had nothing to do with the purchase as long as I had proof of residency, which was obviously not true at all. As well as never being told about the 20% loss before purchase, and only receiving the paperwork stating that after only on the receipt after it was already purchased.

This is not ******* and she is not returning a pair of jeans. These are items that are heavily regulated by the ******************* There is a lot of manpower and time spent behind the scenes for each individual purchase; both at the store and with federal and local agencies. The bottom of the receipt SHE attached as a screenshot CLEARLY STATES that "...a denied background check will be subject to a 20% restocking fee plus $40.00 paperwork fee." That alone should suffice. Regardless, I'll explain. In ************, there is a 7 day waiting period before a firearm is able to be transferred. Not only is there a federal background check but also a state background check that needs to be completed. She lied about her actual address and ******** denied her application. A relative of hers also attempted to purchase a firearm here and submitted a fake AT&T phone **** to try and prove residence that the local police department caught. She was denied and had to pay the fees associated with a denial according to our store's official return policy.

      FAQ

Copied and pasted from your response, "She lied about her actual address and Westerly denied her application. A relative of hers also attempted to purchase a firearm here and submitted a fake AT&T phone **** to try and prove residence that the local police department caught."

First thing is first, a RELATIVE of mine, has NOTHING to do with me. So not only is the sentence irrelevant, but it makes no difference when talking about me. Second, I DID NOT lie about my address, I gave the address of which I live, which is westerly, and provided GOVERNMENT ISSUED proof of ************** of the employees at YOUR STORE even spoke with the chief of police and he told your employee it was strictly because my license is a ** license, and he will only accept Westerly License. Not only that, I WAS NOT DENIED BECAUSE OF A BACKGROUND CHECK, I HAVE NOTHING ON MY BACKGROUND, I WAS DENIED BECAUSE OF A LICENSE. A license that YOUR employee told me would not be an issue, and AS LONG AS I HAVE A CLEAN BACKGROUND THEN I WOULD NOT LOSE ANY MONEY. So again, I was given false information. And you are exactly correct, I am not just trying to return PANTS AT ******** I am trying to return something worth much more money due to lack of knowledge from YOUR employee, money which you are trying to rob me from. So no, you are lying with what you said in your response about me lying about my address, and you are covering up your employees mistakes and trying to rob me of my money. This is bad business, and completely wrong.

The gun I purchased, I have never fired and I never took it home, it has been in the shop where I purchased it the entire time. Also, the receipt that "shows the 20% loss" is only provided AFTER the purchase was made, and after their employee told me there would be no loss at all if I was not approved strictly because of an out of state license, I was told that would not be an issue. I did not lie about my address. I provided proof of residency which was verified by **************** If they are going to insist that I lied about ANYTHING, I would ask for proof because I know proof doesn't exist. I live in Westerly. I do not live in ***********. I was open about my license before the purchase, and was assured that it would make no difference and the only thing that could negatively affect me was if there was something on my background in a criminal way, which there is not, not even a traffic ticket.

I could have put a small deposit down on the gun but was talked into just paying the entire balance to make things easier for when I picked up the gun because they were so sure my out of state license was not going to be an issue. Another interesting thing that happened was an employee there, during my purchase, even offered for me to put the gun in my siblings paperwork so I could "take it home early". That seems strange to me that that would even be offered, and I denied right away. This was the same employee who stated that my license would not be an issue.

Buying a gun is serious business, they did everything in their power to push this sale through, including offering me the answer sheet so I could make sure to get a high score on the blue card test. I am a college graduate and have passed the test on my own prior, I only came in for a new card because I lost mine. I can provide 3 additional people who also took the test and were offered the answer sheet, without ever asking for it. Does that sound like gun safety and a proper ethical business?

If I do not get my 100% refund, as it is deserved, I will be taking the next step and taking all of this information to the attorney general's office.

      Regards,

      Arianna
