A service technician came out on 27 September 2022 and incorrectly diagnosed a problem with my oven. The technician told me that both heating elements were bad. I correctly replaced both heating elements and the appliance still did not function. He diagnosed that the heating elements were bad because they had a low Ohm reading on his multimeter. The brand new elements I purchased had the same Ohm reading, which indicates that this was not a proper diagnosis. After purchasing my own multimeter, I was able to confirm that the wires supplying the elements were not getting the appropriate voltage, something that the technician had the ability to check, but did not bother to check during his service call. Had he checked this, it might have led him to the correct diagnosis of the problem which was a bad control board. I have since ordered and replaced the control board of the oven, and it functions as it should with the original elements that I was told were bad. I was charged a service charge for this technician to come out to the home and diagnose the problem with the oven. The service technician incorrectly diagnosed the problem, which led to me wasting time and money buying elements and replacing them when they weren't bad. The company also charged sales tax on this service of 5.75% despite this being a service that is not subject to tax. The company was provided the opportunity to refund the service charge and declined. The service I paid for (diagnosing the correct problem with my oven) was not rendered.
