I applied for an apartment here. I explained to ****** that I am self-employed contract tech support executive. I have multiple contracts through the Upwork platform. I made it clear multiple times, and even showed ****** the *** income letterhead and tax information if needed. I was ensured that it was not needed, and that I should only write information for my current contract with Candu. I did not feel comfortable putting just Candu as I work under Upwork and have multiple contracts come and go as needed, so stated (Upwork) everywhere it mentions Candu. I was still encouraged and walked through the entire application. Per ******, this is how it needed to be done. They called EVERY day for an entire week hounding me for Candu proof of payroll. When it was finally submitted ****** the manager calls extremely rude, short, did not listen AT ALL to anything I was trying to explain, and tried to accuse me of falsifying information. When I clarified that this was all per ******* instruction, they took no accountability saying "well you signed it" at that point I decided this was not a place I would be comfortable doing business with. I asked to withdraw my application, and of course they decide to keep my deposit for whatever reason. On top of that ****** makes up some story about someone named ******* whom we never met, and claimed multiple employees told her that my husband and I were originally trying to apply together, this was NOT at all true as my husband and I are separated and he has permanent residence in Port Aransas already at Pioneer. I was moving to my own place to be near as we work through our separation. NEVER have either of us any intention of living together, and even mentioned that in the conference room. We asked for camera footage proving everything that was said and done during the application process and was hung up on. The fact that we are being lied about is extremely disturbing.

The applicant cancelled which resulted in losing $100 deposit for holding the apartment home off the market.

      (My email to my boss)

      *****,

****** went over the paperwork with this applicant.

She came in with her husband.

They changed from applying married to separated.

She couldnt answer who her current employer was.

She was then advised we needed the **** and her to do a profit and loss form and she did not want to do that. (She does contract work)

I can pull footage if needed but no one was falsifying her application. We only needed her to fill in the information with true and correct information.

I will send an email from ****** as well.

      (See below)

After receiving an employment verification that states ******* gets 25/hr and 10 hrs per week, we called the applicant to advise she should make at least 2 x the rent of $719.00. She Said that she does work more hours and that the person that completed the ** does not know what hes doing and that she can send a letterhead with information or have someone else verify it. I advised that the ** must come from the employer. The appl stated several times that she works for companies  Candu and an Upwork and that she has other clients that she makes more income from. I advised that if she has other forms of income, she failed to disclose them on her paperwork. She then said she was a contractor but also works for the aforementioned companies as a contractor. After going back and forth for a moment, I finally had to ask her if she gets a **** or a W2 and if its both, what company gives her which one. She said she only receives only ****s. I advised her that she will be considered self-employed she will need to correct her paperwork and bring in her tax info.I advised that if she knew she was self-employed, it should have been disclosed properly. She said she was forced to put CANDU and Upwork on the application and that she is uncomfortable.  I advised her that I too was uncomfortable since she herself wrote employment information on 2 different documents and if she had other forms of income, she did not disclose them on page 2 of the application and she also wrote her income information on the salary portion of the *** instead of Net income from business and she also signed all of the documents as true and accurate info. I also am uncomfortable since she originally came in with her husband to complete the app and said she was separated but they would be trying to work it out after we advised they would need to both be on the app and that both incomes would need to be counted. They would have been over income. Her husband was also on the phone when I was talking to her today explaining different things. She advised that she could take us to court and win, which is completely absurd and on what grounds I do not know. I advised that I would not be continuing the call with threats of legal action being given.  She repeatedly stated that she was forced to put Candu and an Upwork on the paperwork and that she was going to need to think about continuing the application because she was now uncomfortable. I advised her that was fine and to call us or come into the office when she was ready to complete the paperwork with true and accurate information.

      Complaint: 16791084

      I am rejecting this response.

There are several incorrect statements made in the reply. If calls are recorded, camera footage available will prove what was said during the application process and calls. Claiming I had said things I never said is absolutely unacceptable. These claims are entirely incorrect. I have already reached out to the corporate office for this management as well.

      Regards,

      Business response

      02/21/2022

      Good afternoon,

The applicants are all given the same paperwork to fill out.

We do not coast any applicants on what information to put on the application.

The applicant put their current employer which was one of the contractors but did not mention the other contractor on "other income."

All information must be true and correct for us to send to a compliance team that is federally regulated in ******, **

The application states, if the applicant cancels, the deposit is non-refundable.

My team helps all the applicants with filling this information out but never tells them "what" to put.

It asks for a current employer, if you are self-employed we need to know this information so we can fill out the correct paperwork required for compliance.

The applicant only put one of the contractors and did not provide ALL of them nor a **** from 2021 and the profit/loss sheets that are needed to project income.

The team let the applicant know what was needed and the applicant chose to not continue the application. That is why the deposit was not refundable.

We hate to see her cancel and she can re-apply at any time.

      Complaint: ********

I am rejecting this response. I am not interested in associating or giving any business to this company. I will follow this with the regional director of Palladium ***. These statements are still not true or accurate information. I showed the *** form and offered to send to Palladium at the time of the application. I also mentioned this to each **************************** and ******** when called asking for forms from Candu. I explained I was through Upwork and could send them the documentation. I was advise it was not needed. If there are cameras on property, footage needs to be pulled and reviewed as this was all within the conference room when I showed ****** the form from my phone. I have only withdrawn my application due to the treatment by the manager ******** and for being told this information was not necessary then claimed to falsify information. The business continues to deny any responsibility. ******** was not in the room when the application was being completed, with a witness in the room, it has been clarified how things were handled. Deformation on my character with these accusations is not acceptable. I never said the things she is stating which is extremely disturbing. This persons behavior and comments have forced my withdrawal and should in turn refund the deposit, and more importantly, handle business with future residents appropriately.

      Regards,
