I left a review last week about Orangetheory Fitness, a gym near my home here in Salt Lake City using Google reviews. In it, I complained about how as a gym, Orangetheory's marketing strategy is to hook you in with all of the services that they offer to meet your weight loss or fitness goals. They have great machines, expert trainers, and a lot of experience. But then they make you sign a contract agreeing that they will keep your method of payment open and charge you a $12 late cancellation fee every time you show up more than five minutes after your workout schedule time that you picked has passed. Then they give your spot to anyone else who shows up on time. So wrote a bad review about how this policy is socially, psychologically, and morally harmful, and when I asked a Orangetheory representative about it, their reply to me was "We are responsible to teach you accountability." when in reality, these penalty fees are nothing more than a money grab. So, I literally got assaulted in class, and had to get the trainer to talk to this man, and I never really feel safe because they keep up so much tension at that gym. Earlier, I sent an email to the management because they were playing pornographically explicit song lyrics on the sound system. The head trainer apologized and said it wouldn't happen again. it happened again today during the same trainer as last time's workout. This time it was worse. "If you a independent (blank) bend it over, bend it over. Twerk that (blank). I bust it wide open. Then I tell her bring it back." It's a hostile environment, and I paid my membership fee, but I was too traumatized to work out there for a short while, and I just came back only to find that same porncore rap on the speakers and the same trainer. They pretend to listen but they don't. And if they don't have room in class for the number of subscriptions they sell, they need to expand or stop taking members instead of giving spots they don't have for $12 extra.
