Geartrade has a very vague Pricing Policy that allows them to change your ageed-upon price whenever they want, without notice.I initially agreed to sell a pair of $250 bike shoes on their site for $125. After just over 6 months, they sold the shoes for $37 which netted me just $9.79. At no time did they notify me of any price change. When I reached out to them they said that, "After the initial 30 days of a Consignment item being listed, the price is reduced on a weekly basis to maintain pace with the depreciation of the item."Nowhere is their Pricing Policy does it state such practice. What it does say is, "Geartrade may decrease the price based on market conditions, demand, and seasonality."Although this broad statement questionably covers the aforementioned practice, this is completely misleading. No way would I have agreed to terms that depreciated my shoes by ~14% a month after listing for just 30 days. If this is standard practice for all gear consigned to their site, they should state so clearly. I am very unsatisfied with my experience and although I love recycling gear back into the stream, I assure you that I definitely will never do so with Geartrade again.Geartrade.com Response

We have a section dedicated to Pricing in our Consignment Terms of Service here: *************************************************************** This is also highlighted when users choose to consign with us when requesting a free shipping label. It states:Pricing Listing prices are determined by many factors, including the estimated Retail Price, brand, age, product category, seasonality, and condition of each item. If we cannot find an accurate Retail Price for your property, Geartrade will in its best effort estimate the Retail Price based on other known products or categories.Price Adjustments: Once your item has been accepted, you will receive an email with our suggested price and will have 48 hours to adjust the price. The maximum price adjustment you may make is 80% of the estimated Retail Price set by Geartrade. The price you select will be held for thirty days, at which point: (1) Geartrade may decrease the price to find the optimal selling price based on market conditions, demand, and seasonality. This can be up to 85% off the Retail Price. (2) Geartrade may offer additional discounts and promotions during the Consignment Period, at its sole discretion and without notice to you, to efficiently market and sell the Property (end)We do follow this pricing policy as stated above. The quote from our customer service rep: "to maintain pace with the depreciation of the item." is not correct and I will speak with our team so we convey the pricing policy as stated above. As we reduce the price over time, the price of your item updates in your account and can be viewed on your 'active items' page here: *********************************************************** We strive for transparency throughout our consignment process, and I recognize that we do not email our consignors every time a price is updated. That is something we will discuss internally and let you know when we make any updates here. Thanks for providing your feedback. We take all customer feedback seriously and often make modifications to our experience based on this feedback. Thanks again for your business and understanding.Review from Seth J

I ordered a pair of $180 sorel boots (yes, I shopped around for comparison) last month which were listed as used excellent. When I received them they were NWT zero wear on the soles at all. Shipping was fast enough, took 9 days I think. Absolutely love geartrade, and will definitely buy there again.Geartrade.com Response

Order number ****** Geartrade is not transparent about extra shipping charges. They appear after checkout. I cancelled my order. I was told it was all set by *****. I then received the order in the mail. I immediately contacted Geartrade as I was told the order was cancelled. ******* response was that I was to return the items within a prompt certain time frame or I will be charged. It is a major inconvenience for me to print out a return label (I do not own a printer) and to get to a post office. I requested to be contacted by phone. I simply received another email demanding items are returned. Repulsive customer service, awful company. To note, the used Items that were mistakenly shipped to me were disgusting and dirty and that was not how they were described on the website.Geartrade.com Response

Sketchy seller that will not refund for their mistake.Inaccurate product description (sent a different item than what was listed, I ordered a rear der shifter, they sent a front der shifter).Inaccurate verification of product (confirmed that the item was complete when it wasn't, shifter cable was missing parts)Untimely shipping (too almost a week to ship, arrived while i was traveling)Will not give me a full refund with shipping even though they shipped the wrong items....insisting that I absorb the costs of their mistakes.Geartrade.com Response

I'm so sorry about this and thanks for letting us know. I'm checking with the seller on their response and I will make sure this gets resolved on their end. We have already paid the seller for this sale, but we will credit you in full for this order. The seller will be sending you a free return ship label shortly. I also spoke to our rep about this and have trained them to not repeat this type of response in the future. Thanks again for your business and understanding in this matter. I hope we can turn this around for you and that this situation doesn't tarnish your perception of Geartrade.com.Review from zb m

I sent in five pairs of boots several months ago to Gear Trade to be sold and shipped by them. I heard from them that the received the items but nothing else. When I investigated they said they don't sell "Tactical Boots", whatever that means. When I went on their website to see what boots they did sell, I discovered they do in fact sell "Tactical Boots" including some from the brands I sent in. Upon further investigation I discovered that they kept three of the boots I sent in and are selling them on the website without telling me they would do that or discussing price with me, the seller. I have learned that they often do this, and sell the boots themselves, thereby keeping 100% of the selling price, returning nothing to the person who sent the boots in .This is a major SCAM. BE forewarned!Geartrade.com Response

I'm so sorry about your experience and I hope I can add some clarity to your experience. Geartrade offers two ways for people to sell their outdoor gear. 1. You can list the gear on the site yourself like a traditional marketplace (similar to **** or etsy). 2. You can send your gear in for consignment and we list the gear, create the content and ship your gear once it sells. You chose option 2. In this process before requesting a free shipping label to send us your gear, we list all the items we currently accept for sale here: https://www.geartrade.com/consignment/what-we-accept Unfortunately, we are not accepting hunting gear or tactical items and that is included in the items we do not accept for consignment (see link above). We also do not have categories on the site for these specific items. However, when people list gear themselves, people sometimes list items that are not normally found on Geartrade.com. We try to email these sellers and let them know the site is for outdoor gear, but sometimes we do not catch all of these items. You are correct, there are some items in the tactical realm listed on Geartrade so I can understand why this was confusing and we will do a better job explaining what we do and do not accept moving forward. In looking at your account, I see you sent us a few pairs of tactical boots and 2 pairs of shoes that would qualify to be sold, but the Salomon shoes had extensive wear and the inner material was separating, and the New Balance shoes also had extensive wear and missing insoles. As a result, we could not resell these items as we take gear in 'good or better condition'. At this point, we emailed you with the option to send them back to you or donate them. You selected the option to donate your items. Your items have been sent to the ******************** where they will be given to folks in need. In the future, if you'd like us to send them back to you, simply choose the option to 'send back'. If there is anything else we can do to help you, let us know. I can understand why you may have thought we accepted these items, but I can assure you we did not sell them and those were donated.Thanks,Geartrade.comReview from Russell S

We had a fraudulent charge on our credit card. I called my bank and cancelled my card. The bank stated it would take 3 months to investigate. That would tie up my money for that time. I emailed Greartrade, ****** replied back needing some basic information to investigate the charge. About an hour later ****** called and we spoke. Within 20 minutes ****** stated they would refund my money directly and would further investigate the individuals involved. Two days later my bank posted the refund!. I couldn't be happier not having to deal with the bank. Every indication Greartrade is a worthy and honest company. I would do business with Greartrade in a heartbeat. The company stands behind their mission, to give the best possible deal for their customers. Thank you ******, @Greartrade.
