On the 26 of January our refrigerator died. I tried a number of repair folks and could not get anyone to come out in a timely manner (they were all a week to 10 days out). Finally I received a call from *********************** of Sound Appliance Repair who said that he could come out that evening. He showed up around 5:30 in a pickup accompanied by his "Driver". I felt that his was odd however at this point I just wanted it fixed. He came in with his tool bag and took the back off the refrigerator. Without a lot of testing he indicated that the ************** for the compressor had died. He told me that he could order the part for $323.91 (later my research would indicate that this was a $110 part). He would order the part and come back next Wednesday and install it however he would need advance payment of $403.91 for the part and his labor. I wrote him a check from my financial account for that amount. After he left I began to reflect on what appears to be an unusual method of doing business so I looked him up on line. There I found a history of not returning to complete the task after being paid. Concerned about fraud I left a message for my financial folks laying out the events that had transpired. Meanwhile I received a call from ***** telling me that he would not be able to use my check since he used an out of state bank and that had been problematic in the past. He then requested that I give him the card number so we could complete the transaction that way. This was a huge RED FLAG so I told him that I would contact my financial folks and get back to him. What kind of business does business in this State but doesn't bank here, RED FLAG! The next morning I got a call from my folks at my financial institution telling me that they had investigated him and found numerous fraudulent activities. At this point they recommended stopping the check. I notified ***** that I no longer needed his services and the check had been stoped.
