In February or March 2022 my husband, ******, contacted *********************, owner of Cutting Edge Forestry, about cutting down/ shredding dead ash trees on our property. *** visited us to look at the dead ash trees and quoted a cash price of $180 per hour. *** declined a down payment for the job. On Saturday, March 12, 2022, at 4 PM, ***, another worker and a boy arrived, unscheduled, and began to cut down/shred trees. They worked until almost dark at 6 PM. *** came into our house and said we owed him $720. When I questioned the $720 *** said there was a 4-hour minimum and *** wasn't charging us for moving equipment. *** never mentioned a 4-hour minimum or a charge for moving equipment when he quoted the job. ***** paid *** the requested $720 cash. We did not receive a receipt from *** for the $720 cash. On April 22, 2022, I mailed *** at letter at his business address (copy attached) advising I had been thinking about the $720 we paid him and didn't think it was fair. He and his crew had only performed 2 hours of work for us and we had paid for 4 hours of work. When *** accepted the job he never mentioned a 4-hour minimum or a fee for moving equipment. In my letter I proposed that either (1) *** and his team come back and work the 2 hours for which *** had been paid or (2) *** refund half of the $720 he was paid, namely $360. To date, *** has not responded to my letter.
