On 7/26 I went to Sorriso dental (Fairmont) for a cleaning. I asked the hygienist not to do anything that wasn't covered by my insurance since I was recently laid off. She agreed. When she did the bite wing x-rays I asked if they were covered she looked at my records and said they were. Then she did another x-ray of another tooth. I asked again about coverage she assured me it would be covered. On 10/5 I recieved a bill for $27.00. I called the office spoke with a woman who wasnt very nice. I explained I asked the hygienist not to do anything that wasn't covered by my Ins. and she reassured my she wouldn't. The lady said it wasn't their problem and told me to call my Ins. I asked her to confirm with the hygienist my request not to have anything done that wasn't covered. She said she was with a patient. I asked her to ask her and call me back. She said she would. I never got a call back so I figured she confirmed everything and all was done. On 11/5 I got a another bill that said (OVER 90 DAYS PAY IMMEDIATELY!) So I called *** ******* she wouldnt speak with me. She had an employee call me back. She said she talked with ******* and (There was nothing they could do for me) She said most Ins. Co. pay for all the x-rays. I said I did everything I could possibly do to avoid this from happening. If the hygienist didnt know she should have said that she didnt. Then it would have been my decision. Not reassure me it would be covered. I had to pay the bill to avoid collections since they never called me back and was out of time. I am requesting a refund since this was handled so badly. I have been a patient for over 35 yrs. With her father and now her. I have never had a complaint before and have always paid my bills. You have to trust what your told by your health care provider and this is just not right. It's not the amount of money it's the principal and the way it was unprofessionally handled. Thank You* **** *******Business response

To Whom It May Concern,
Our office bills every patient's dental benefit company as a courtesy. And per our office financial agreement, which the patient has signed, states "Our: professional services are rendered to the patient and not to the benefit company" and "Due to constantly changing contracts between your employer and benefit companies, we are only able to approximate your dental benefits coverage".
For this particular patient the Periapical Xray that was taken is a covered benefit by his dental benefit company.
Unfortunately there are a few dental benefit companies that apply a deductible to this particular way. And in this case the patient’s dental benefit company}is unique and Is one of the few companies that apply the yearly deductible to the Periapical Xray. Therefore no payment was made for treatment rendered making the patient's liability $27. It is Impossible for our dental office to know the exact details of the thousands of dental benefit companies We bill on a daily basis. And for reasons like this is why we have our financial policy in place stating we can only approximate the patient's dental benefits coverage.
Please see attached copy of our Financial Policy for any future reference.

In lieu of the Christmas holiday please accept the enclosed check for $27.
It is not my intent to argue with patients. We provide the highest standard of care to our patients based on their dental needs and not based on their dental benefits carrier. Please see the attached, and signed by you, financial agreement stating the patient's benefit company is responsible to the patient and the patient is responsible to Sorriso Dental for payment of services.
For any future treatment please contact your dental benefit carrier to verify what treatment may or may not be covered.
Merry Christmas.Customer response

Hello
I do accept the refund which is all I requested. However the copy of patient response responseability form and note is irrelevant in this complaint. If I would have received the services I requested and was reassured I would get we would not have had this interaction.
Happy Holidays
