I contacted BMW London for an issue with my 2015 BMW i3. I paid $160 for a diagnosis (the issue was that the car would not charge at a DC fast charging station without lifting up on the charging handle. Initially BMW said that the car would require the locking mechanism to be replaced as the charger was reporting that this was not engaged so would not initiate the charge. If that didnt work they wanted to replace the cables, and charging port for $2700.00. They replaced the locking mechanism for $635.00 and told me the car still would not DC fast charge without lifting up on the charging handle. I took the car home and noticed that when charging on my home system (which is NOT DC fast charging) and locking the car the locking mechanism would NOT lock the handle. I tried this on my wife's car (she has the same vehicle) and it would lock the handle. I contacted BMW to tell them that the locking mechanism was not working still and if they would take it back to have a look. They refused saying that I needed to accept the more expensive repair. When I offered to bring the car down and demonstrate that the it still was not working **** ****, the manager said there was nothing more to look at!. He even said (and I have written proof in the form of emails), that and admitted the locking mechanism was not working but I needed to accept the diagnosis that a much more expensive repair would be required. I let him know that the FIRST order of business was to get the locking mechanism working properly which his shop failed to do before I would accept that this was not the cause of the charging issue. On my car if the locking mechanism is not working properly, the DC fast charge will not start. Clearly they are not willing to admit they did something wrong in the repair process.
