I hired Mr. Balams to renovate my mother's 2 bedroom home. It was a total renovation and adding a new full bath. We signed a contract and agreed that it would take 6 weeks to complete. I also had him sign an addendum that workers would work 5-6 hours a day. There were days when workers did not show and no work was done. Apparently, his workers were fired and he was the only person working on most days with some assistance from his son. He told me several times that the work would be done by a certain day and it wasn't which was a waste of my time because I live out of state and drove 2 1/2 hours based on his word. His son does tile work and when I say that his work is subpar, I'm being generous. The tile in my mother's renovated bathroom is horrible. The grout lines do not line up and the tile cuts are horrible. They added a full bathroom and they installed the shower control incorrectly and in her old bathroom the water pressure is horrible and the plumbing bangs against the wall/tile. They installed electrical work incorrectly. They made choices about materials on their own, without our input. They were almost done but with the renovations however, after working for 11 weeks and still not being finished and after they asked for a check even though we agreed to 1/3 at the beginning, middle and end, I finally just had to tell them that their services were no longer needed and I'll have someone else complete the work. Maybe if they had fulltime workers this experience would have been better, but it was very inconvenient. I purchased most of the materials (tile, flooring, toilets, grout, vanities, lights, ceiling fans, doorknobs) and they still asked me to buy thinset and other products you'd expect the contractor to buy, not the customer. Save yourself the time and aggravation and hire someone else.
