Copeland Roofing/Restoration Response
07/26/2023
Mr. ******* had a roof performed by our company- a small area of siding work, and some metal facia work. A couple of weeks ago I personally spoke with Mr. *******. He was completely happy with the siding work with the exceptions of the wrap that goes around a gable vent. He was completely happy with the roofing project as hundreds of customers have been in the 10 years that I have been doing roofing projects.
The metal facia work did not turn out to be good work on some areas and I agreed with him 100%. I let him know that I was going to send my guys back over to his home and correct the metal facia issue and snap in the plastic frame that came loose that goes around the gable vent which was a very simple task.
Two weeks have passed now and I connected with Mr. ******* on Sunday evening, July 23 to let him know that i ran into an issue. The company that I use to break metal no longer has the machine to break metal. This is the only company that I have used to break metal and I had used them for many years. This left me no other alternative but to reimburse him the money that was given to me to perform this part of the job, In which I did.
I reached out to him almost immediately when I found this out . I made apologies to Mr ******* when speaking with him on the phone and after conversation he was OK with everything and understood my situation. I reimbursed Mr. ******* 100% the amount from the funds that he had given that we’re allowed for the facia work so that he could utilize that toward his facia. I apologized on the phone and I apologized through text explaining again that the company that I used to break metal was no longer accessible and it was completely out of my control.
When my field manager went to his home Monday, the 24th to give him his reimbursement, and again apologize to him for this situation that was out of our control, Mr ******* became very angry and began to go into left field. He threw his hands in the air, and stormed in his house. Mr. ******* through his anger, then began to post on a public platform derogatory statements, and even went as far as to accuse me personally of doing him wrong, and taking advantage of him because he was a veteran. In his comment he said that all veterans need to look out for Copeland Roofing. I connected back with Mr.******* and let him know that making a statement like that about me when he does not know me and has absolutely nothing factual about how I feel about veterans was completely inappropriate. I told Mr. ******* I had a father-in-law that served in Vietnam and I have a son that served in the Marine Corps and I have a nephew that served in the Marine Corps. He had no business to make a statement like that especially on a public platform about me over a siding job. He also began to go into left field at this time over the roofing and began making these personal statements that do not appreciate. He even went as far then to call me a liar, and to call my field manager a liar even when we reimbursed him 100% and apologized many times after we discussed everything and had understanding. Instantly he now believes everything is wrong in his eyes.
Even after these derogatory statements of myself and of my company I still offered to Mr. ******* that I was willing 100% to come over and reset the plastic frame around the vent like I told him I would. He declined. As I mentioned before there was nothing mentioned about the roofing except statements that it looked great-until after my field manager, reimbursed him his funds for the facia.
I feel there are other issues here out of my control. I always to my best ability, handle all my customer’s professionally and respectfully. The fact that he is a veteran had nothing to do with the circumstances at hand. I wasn’t even aware that he was a veteran at the time this project was being performed. It was inappropriate for him to post on public platforms that people better be careful and on the lookout for Copeland Roofing/******* Copeland because we don’t treat veterans right. I’m highly offended by this comment. Taking it to that level like I said, is completely unnecessary.
As a the owner of Copeland Roofing I know my field manager and myself did everything we could to please Mr *******. However, I did not appreciate being called a liar and not honoring veterans. This is absolutely not how this project was performed and has never been for the hundreds of other customers we have done work for.
