On March 15, 2024, BBB sent the company a Business Practice Inquiry through email, to request the following information:

On March 15, 2024, BBB requested Tiny House Company to modify, substantiate, or discontinue claims made on their website (https://tinyhousecompany.net/) that read, “American Made”, “100% American Made”, “5,000+ Sold Nationwide Last Month”, “Tiny Homes are tied into existing sewer or septic systems, electric panels, and water lines. Ask about our professionals that set up your new Tiny Home.”, “Our homes come with a 3-year Builder’s Warranty. The walls are guaranteed for 30 years and the roof for 40 years.”, and “Our fire rating is 3 times better than a traditional home.” Advertisers must be prepared to substantiate such claims per BBB's Code of Advertising.
BBB's Code of Advertising Section 37 states, "Made in USA” and similar terms used to describe the origin of a product must be truthful and substantiated. 37.2 An advertiser must not express or imply that a product or product line is exclusively “Made in USA” unless all or virtually all of the product is made in the U.S. All significant parts and processing that go into the product must be of U.S. origin. That is, the product should contain no — or negligible — foreign content. BBB’s Code of Advertising Section 34 states, Claims relating to performance, energy savings, safety, efficacy or results for a product or service should be based on recent and competent testing or other objective data. BBB's Code of Advertising Section 1 states, The primary responsibility for truthful and non-deceptive advertising rests with the advertiser. Advertisers should be prepared to substantiate any objective claims or offers made before publication or broadcast. Upon request, they should present such substantiation promptly to the advertising medium or BBB. Additionally, BBB's Code of Advertising Section 20 states, When using the term “warranty” or “guarantee” in product advertising, the advertiser must clearly and conspicuously include a statement that the complete details of the warranty can be seen prior to sale at the advertiser's location, viewed on the advertiser’s website or, in the case of mail or telephone order sales, made available free on written request.
