I was overcharged for the part and labor to repair our furnace. I have sent 2 emails to Greeley Furnace asking for an itemized invoice. I requested an itemized estimate before approving the repair and was told that it wasn't available. I approved the repair at the time because we had no heat and 2 babies in our home. If you are considering using Greeley Furnace for your heating and cooling needs. I cannot suggest this business. They charged 3 times the $ for the part and I have no idea what they charged for labor. The repairman was only here for less than an hour.

    Greeley Furnace Company Co Response

    01/10/2022

Please find response to customers complaint. All repair were pre-approved. Brenda, Thank you for your email, our technician’s work very hard to ensure our customers satisfaction. It’s nice to hear that you were please with the service our technician provided. I also want to thank you for expressing your concern regarding your bill. I will do my best to explain our charges as I have reviewed invoicing and your letter. We have responded to your location, per your request for service, twice including our most recent repair. The first was on 4/12/2020, for a no heat call, in which we found a loose connection on the gas valve connector plug. We secured connection and tested operation with no issues. You were charged an after-hours diagnostic of 140.00. No additional charges were incurred on this call. The second time we responded was on 12/27/2021, for a no heat call, which is the call in which you have concerns. These two times are the only times we have been to your residence. Your first concern in your email was regarding the 89.00 diagnostic fee you paid. You stated that we had always refunded the diagnostic fee for you on repairs. However, as your history shows we have never refunded your diagnostic fee. In addition, Greeley Furnace Company (since 1958) has never had a policy to refund diagnostic fee with repair. Although some companies refund this charge, I can assure you they just add it back into the repair cost. We prefer to be up front with our charges and simply do not play that shell game. The second item of concern was regarding the cost of the inducement motor verses labor. Most all legitimate HVAC contractors will not use compatible after market parts due to warranty issues and specification tolerances. We only install OEM parts (original equipment manufacturer) which are always more costly than aftermarket parts. Our OEM part cost us 200.00 plus taxes equaling around 214.20, that is our cost with no profit margin which no business can accept. The industry standard mark up for this part would easily be 40.00 to 50.00 dollars (most local HVAC contractors would charge a high markup). Bring retail part cost for OEM part anywhere from 254.00 plus. The next concern you expressed was our labor charge. With travel time to your location (which is standard billing practices) and the time our tech was on location at your residence for your repair (which excludes time for diagnostic) was 1.5 hours. In addition to the time it took to find the correct OEM part plus driving to Ft. Collins (1 hour) to pick up from manufacture. That is 2.5 hours we spent installing and picking up your part which is justified and approved by you before repairs were completed. This is all tracked by our GPS location tracking and dispatch program. So, with our OEM part cost retail at 254.00, that leaves a balance charged for labor of 214.00 (as we addressed diagnostic fee earlier). Which is well below our normal hourly labor rate for our industry. This is why Greeley Furnace always quote a firm flat rate price (as most HVAC contractors) which guarantees to repair cost no matter how long it takes for the repair. I hope this offers some insight on our pricing structure. In general, the total cost for this type of repair is well within the industry standard and much less than many in northern Colorado. I would like to again thank you for your email of concern. We value your trust and business and all of our technicians are professionally trained and are required to continue training to remain employed at Greeley Furnace. I understand we are not the least expensive company but, in my experience, the cheaper repair normally winds up costing more in the end. If you choose not to use Greeley Furnace Company, we respect that decision and wish you a warm winter. However, if you should ever need us in the future, we will be ready to provide the best service possible.
