New home under construction in Punta Gorda through Frey & Son builders. Their cabinet subcontractor Cabinet Genies(CG) designed a kitchen island that was to be constructed to accommodate a workstation sink that we (homeowner) purchased and had in storage with the builder Frey & Son. CG designed the cabinet and referenced on their drawing that “customer will supply sink”. We purchased the sink on a website for $1,400 and we assumed that the drawings we were provided had the dimensions for our sink. CG changed their plan and installed a completely different sink (narrower, single bowl versus our double bowl sink, different accessories etc). They then put through a change order to our builder in the amount $6000!! Unfortunately we didn’t catch the change until almost a year after it had been made. Neither the builder or CG will explain to us why the change was made, why they chose the most expensive sink they could find, why no consideration was given to modifying the cabinet dimensions to accommodate our sink, nor any correspondence whatsoever notifying us to reason for the change. They simply put through a change order and remained silent. Now when I requested from them the answers to the questions I just put forth, they refuse to answer and referred me to my builder. The builder offered to remove their 15% margin on their end, which clearly indicates there is more to the story otherwise they wouldn’t have made that offer. (That is an entirely separate issue as the builder Frey & Son Inc. will also have a separate complaint coming from me.) CG simply referred me back to my builder and clearly wants me to go away without answering why they changed the design and didn’t use our sink. Additionally, the paperwork booklet and installation template for the sink we purchased is now lost, and both CG and Frey have no idea where it is. CG HAS COMPLETELY FAILED FROM A CUSTOMER SERVICE/COMMUNICATION PERSPECTIVE.
