On Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2021, a representative of Murphy Paving and Sealcoating, **** appeared at our home and asked if we would like our 386 ft. long, 12 ft wide curved, sloped driveway top coated with "left over" highway material. I was interested since we had previous similar work done with good results. I was told a supervisor would measure and provide a quote. Their pick-up truck was at the top of the driveway for an extended period of time where they stated they "were firing up the asphalt". Without presenting a quote, they began applying the material which was not hot.Upon completion, the asking price was $6,700. The price was questioned and it was reduced to $6,500 if paid in cash. I went to the bank for the cash. On return, the workers were gone. My son telephoned the worker and questioned the integrity of their work. The price was reduced to $4,500.00, cash.They sent a young woman to pick up the money. It rained that night and the entire coating washed off and accumulated at the low end of the driveway and flagstone walkways. In addition, on further inspection, a 9 foot section of 4 ft high retaining wall had been destroyed at the top of driveway. Apparently, their truck had run off the driveway prior to applying the asphalt coating. We informed the Company of the events and were informed they would be there at 12:00 PM on Saturday, Nov. 6 and apply another coating. They did not appear. The company called at 3:00 PM stating they were finishing up coating a parking lot and would be at our home at 5:00 PM. They did not show and would no longer answer their phone.
