It's really unfortunate their lack of transparency and what feels to be incredibly dishonest billing practices. The pregnant population is an extremely vulnerable population of individuals who just want to have a healthy pregnancy and baby (or babies). Their website does include a link (https://www.insightmedicalgenetics.com/cpt-codes) that includes a list of the billing codes they submit to insurance as well as the self-pay and out of network price for the patient so going in one thinks they have an idea of what they will have to pay. An easy appointment would include the consultation, ultrasound, blood draw, and the cost of the test (for me it was only the cell-free DNA screen). What I thought would be a $500-$600 **** was actually almost $1500- and I feel like I got off easy compared to some of the other women on here. I should mention that in addition to being billed by Insight Medical Genetics I also received a **** by Sequenom- the lab that actually runs the sample.The real issue I have, in addition to the language on the website, my genetics counselor ******* started out the appointment addressing billing upfront. She guaranteed that we would not pay more than the self-pay/ out of network price (even with insurance). This was said to my husband and myself during our zoom appointment, which we repeated back to her to verbalize understanding, which she confirmed. This was not the case. She was a very knowledgable Genetics Counselor, but should have stayed in her lane when it came to the billing as it mismanaged our expectations I was told there was nothing to do but to the pay the ****. I settled that with Insight Medical Genetics only to receive another **** from Sequenom a few weeks later... I would not recommend this business as they have questionable practices
