I made an appointment with one of their vets (out-patient) to try to get a second opinion. My dog would awaken midnight with a yell and then go back to sleep. He also urinated in his bed. I was advised to give him anti-seizure meds potassium bromide to prevent them. I told the doctor that for the past week he had no seizures. I was uncomfortable about starting, but agreed to listen to her. That first night he got a seizure after being seizure free the prior week! I brought this to the attention of this vet immediately ! She said to keep him on it for at least a week. Not good! By day three he was still having them, so she said to take him to the their ER. They gave him phenobarbital! I called the next day I was told he had had no seizures and I could pick him up. When I picked him up, my dog was totally drugged out. They said that was normal and his body would get used to the medication. He might walk a little crooked. What they failed to tell me when I picked him up was that my dog could not stand or walk at ALL! He could not eat on his own or urinate standing! I had to discover this on my own! I saw my dog could not stand when I took him outside the building after picking him up from their ER. I brought him back in. Their tech told me that he was just getting used to the medication. All I know is that HE COULD WALK, EAT, and PEE ON HIS OWN-NOW HE COULD NOT! They should have transferred him. They took no responsibility for releasing him in this condition. The vet who saw him in hospital, saw him out patient when learning of his condition. She blamed the dog (iatrogenic) for having other possible neuro problems. She told ME to bring him to other places. She made one call to ********** and said they turned him down because they did not have a ventilator.. i was left with my poor dog in worse condition. Now he was having seizures 3 x day and could not walk or stand. I had to put the poor guy down. I loved him and wish I never listened to them.
