Better Business Bureau warns consumers to use caution when shopping online with Whalegot.com. BBB has received numerous complaints and Scam Tracker reports regarding Whalegot.com and associated websites. Consumers allege that the company advertises a range of products priced well below market value. Several consumers have reported that they’ve paid for expensive items such as power tools, cell phones, and Lego sets only to receive cheap, counterfeit items in return. The company currently has an “F” rating with BBB, the lowest possible rating.
Many scammers engaging in the sale of counterfeit goods create multiple websites, social media pages, and Shopify storefronts to attract as many consumers as possible. Scammers have also been known to randomly select residential addresses and utilize Google voice numbers with local area codes to provide their sites with a veneer of legitimacy. In the case of Whalegot.com, BBB investigators noticed that consumers were reporting similar experiences but shopping on many different websites. In this instance, the scammers had been careless and used the same address and phone number on each of their many websites. BBB Investigators determined that the Lafayette, Indiana address did not actually exist. Additionally, BBB investigators identified 12 different websites advertising the same address and phone numbers. WHOIS data revealed that each of these website domains were registered in a two-month window during the fall of 2019 and each website was registered with the same domain registration company. The following websites are believed to be affiliated with Whalegot.com: Skirtreep.com, Zulimey.com, Wowmry.com, Venzwn.com, Smockelry.com, Roseza.com, Reeboa.com, Costcutten.com, Costamy.com, Charmsma.com, Burtoa.com, Burkwa.com.
A study conducted by the BBB International Investigations Initiative states that one in four people that have bought items online have received counterfeit merchandise. Another study conducted by the Government Accountability Office claims that nearly 88% of counterfeit items originate in Hong Kong and China. It is widely believed that international organized crime groups oversee the operations of these counterfeit sites. Many of the items received through Whalegot.com and its affiliates were drop-shipped from Chinese addresses.At-a-glance
