Kentuckiana Gastroenterology has billed me for a false claim of $200 for a show charge. I have called the office 4 times about this error, and they have yet to remove the charge. Each time I have called, I've been transferred and placed on hold. On my last call on 8/13/24, I was informed that they would remove the charge. During that phone call on 8/13/24, I asked to speak to the billing manager but couldn't because the board of health was in the office at the time, per the front desk clerk. I have a phone record of me calling the office on 5/20/24 to cancel the appointment that they are charging me a no-show for. The appointment that was initially scheduled was not approved by me; they scheduled the appointment right after my surgery. I was under anesthesia, and they handed me a paper that had my next appointment listed. I informed them that I doubted that I could make those dates due to my work schedule, and they stated to call the office to cancel. Which I did and I havent been able to get the office to correct this error, I just received another bill for the $200 false no show charge.

They sent me to collections ($610) for a phone call they made to me for less than 5 minutes. I didn't schedule this "appointment" because I am a full time student and have little time during the day. I only answered after several calls from them. Months later, my parents received a bill. My mother called the billing department number on the invoice (third party billing) regarding the balance of $610 and told them that as that the insurance we have was never billed but she stated that it should not be billed anyways since I did not make, agree or have an appointment. We gave them our new insurance information. Months later we received another bill. We called and they told her the insurance policy number was no good so she restated the information over the phone and was told not to pay and wait for it to go through. Months later we received another bill, we called and gave them our insurance number again. The next day, she received a call from the billing dept and asked to restate AGAIN the policy number because it was not coming up. They said they were missing a number or two. Then she was asked to send the card electronically through email and was given a random Gmail to send it to. My father arrived at Dr Gupta's office on March 1st of 2023 and gave them the insurance card personally. Less than 3 weeks later, I received a collection letter stating I owed this amount and no insurance on file for that date. Sending me to collections is unjustified because of an error on behalf of billing, several correspondence and attempts by me and my parents to have it corrected is not my fault this date of service has not been billed. Furthermore this is all for an appointment that I did not make, nor agree too. I have had no further appointments. A dispute letter was mailed to Arian on 4/21 and personally delivered to Dr Office on 4/24

We have reached out to the patient and asked our collection company to write off the balance. The patient said that she is withdrawing her complaint.

Scheduled a colonoscopy with ***** ****** ****** ***** *******. who is listed as In Network with my ***** Insurance. I am 51 so this is preventative care and there should be no out of cost according to *****, yet ********* ******* enter is trying to bill be $1400.00! Spoke with ***** who said I do not owe anything and I relayed this to them but they turned me over to a collection agency! ******* ********* ******* Center and found several similar complaints from people who were also being billed up to 4k by them, because they used an non ***** anesthesiologist! When you are seeing Dr. ***** because he is a preferred provider and you give them your insurance a month in advance, why would they use a non approved anesthesiologist for the surgery? This is the definition of a shady business practice and people need to be warned about them. They need to remove this charge and cancel this collection agency at once.

Spoke with Mrs. ***** about the billing issue.  The $1400 is  not a bill from them but it's a bill from the Surgery Center that they use and it is not within the patient's network with *****. She indicated that prior to haaving the surgery all patients are given a form to sign indicating that the Surgery Center may not be in network and it's the patient's responsibility to pay.

      Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

I currently work in a medical office and have family members who are physicians in the medical field. When insurance information is provided by patients weeks in advance, as it was here, the office staff will verify coverage by the insurance provider to ensure payment. If the office sees that large portions will be out of network resulting in thousands of dollars owed by a patient for a procedure that is normally covered with NO out of pocket expense, they notify the patient. The office I currently work at WILL NOT schedule or CANCEL a patient's appointment if we see that this is the case. It is apparent from the negative google reviews of this company, that they DO NOT notify the patient of this information, resulting in thousands of dollars owed by unknowing patients, who are then turned over to collection agents.
This is the most despicable business practice a medical office can employ. It is only done by unethical physicians, in an attempt to receive large cash payments in amounts far above what an insurance company would reimburse for their own greed. I will be submitting formal complaints to the KBML and attorney general about the intentional deceit perpetrated upon patients who think they are going to an In-network medical office with no out of pocket cost, only to find themselves left with large medical bills.

      Regards,

      ***** *****
