(2) I called Freightliner in Beaumont, to get a quote for the NOX sensor that the mechanic at Road Bound and Down said that no one had. The Beaumont Freightliner parts department said that the NOX sensor for the back of the DPF tank (which is the part we supposedly needed), costs around $500 (not the $1000 that Road Bound and Down was going to charge me). Additionally, had I purchased that part from a hot shot company that could have sent it to me the morning I decided to have a tow truck company tow me to Beaumont, the refund for the 'core' would have been around $130 (not the $1000 that Road Bound and Down charged me). To charge me $1000 for a core on a part that should have been returned, since it was not used, is criminal; but even if the part was used, it is a 1000% upcharge on the part (sort of like Walmart charging you $40 for a $4 gallon of milk, which is predatory). The 2 $1000 fees charged on my bill were legitimate for the DPF filters, but there was an additional $1000 for the core (which referred to the NOX sensor that screws into the DPF system); this is the $1000 that I am referencing that should not have been charged to my bill.
(3) Seeing the copper line missing on top of the DPF tank the last day I was at Road Bound and Down was the signal to me that I was being taken advantage of. 1/8" copper lines don't just "fall off" a DPF tank, and even if they did, for the line that went into the DPF system to be cut off at 2 ends suggested to me that it was intentionally and maliciously removed. The mechanic that repaired the truck in about 3 hours in Beaumont told me that the reason that the truck was derating was because the copper line was missing. Road Bound and Down stated that photos were taken of the missing copper line, but I never saw those photos, so I can't confirm whether this was done.
Drivers would be wise to stay clear of the Road Bound and Down shop. If there was a music song that represented how I feel about this shop (and my experience there) it would be Santana's hit song "Hotel California".
