We entered a contract with *** *******, ******* Construction and Remodeling , LLC in June of 2022 to build a workshop that included a 400 ft. tiny house inside. The agreed-on price was $102,884.79. In April of 2023 we had to terminate the contract for breach. By January of 2023 we had paid Mr. ******* $91,721.20 and through a professional inspector determined that only 60% of the work had been completed by the time of termination. Additionally, of the $102,884.79 (contracted amount) we had paid $40,529 to vendors and sub-contractors, some of whom were calling and/or knocking on our door asking for payment. We had no choice but to terminate the contract with vendors/subs threating to file liens on our property. Mr. ******* did not pull the proper permits to start the job resulting in a delay requiring us to meet with the Caddo Parish MPC to attain proper permit. That permit was issued in November of 2022. Mr. ******* did not pour the slab until January of 2023. Each draw we gave him trusting that he would do the right thing, but we were not receiving any assurances that he was placing our money towards to project, instead we saw on social media post of his family on several beach trips, trips to college and pro sporting events and many other mini-trips for his family of 6, and it wasn’t until after Christmas that the work resumed. The trust was gone. We had subs come knocking on our door asking to be paid. We had to pay them to avoid liens. We a had a supplier contact us regarding payment for special order materials (March 2023), she said he was avoiding her calls. He would tell us he spoke with her and the materials were not available, which she said was not correct. It was at that point that other people in the community had contacted us with concerns, sharing their experiences with him and we realized that we had a problem. Mr. ******* owes us an underdetermined amount but no less than $40,529. He has made no effort to pay us back.
