Owner Michael S**** used hostile and vulgar language on a phone call when I emailed him at work and asked for clarification of the scope of work being performed by contracted helpers dispatched to my property for a scheduled repair. The workers arrived late the day of the appointment. The office had called to say that they were running late due to traffic and to expect them in 30 minutes or so. When they did arrive an hour and 45 minutes later, the reason given was they had to stop by the office to get the supplies. This crew seemed to be contracted labor as their truck wasn't labeled. One of the techs did have a shirt sporting the "A Step in Time" name. The scope of work was prepared and written in a very vague style and lacking detail. Michael Shipe, the owner did his version of a "free inspection", but he doesn't climb ladders, so he had these gentleman come a different time and day to actually climb up a ladder and take a look at things. The discussed scope of work suggested that repairs to both a fireplace chimney and a oil furnace chimney would be handled in one visit instead of scheduling two to save money. I can interpret in the scope of work some vague reference that may have been expected to be done to the fireplace chimney, but only the oil furnace chimney was addressed during the visit. That's why I wanted to ask for clarification of the wording used in this scope of work. Michael Shipe cussed and threatened to have these guys yank everything out and leave while threatening to take me to court in his response via phone call to my email asking for clarification. He was so enraged that I bothered him this late in the day. He hadn't responded to my earlier email asking about the preferred method of payment and my interest in specific chimney caps that could reduce back drafts. I got the distinct impression he doesn't read his emails, only office staff do. This experience has left me concerned that Mr. Shipe will become hostile to others in our community.
