    Pattern of Complaint:
In May 2019, BBB investigated Great Expressions Dental Centers’ business practices. This investigation was prompted by a pattern of complaints, surrounding billing and customer service issues. BBB attempted to reach out to the company via certified mail, telephone and email. After multiple requests to the business for further information on noted issues, BBB received response acknowledging receipt of our concerns, but the business failed to respond to questions to potentially eliminate underlying issues with consumers. This business has also indicated that it will not work to resolve customer disputes through BBB. Consumers with outstanding concerns are still encouraged to file a complaint for BBB records, but may also wish to contact legal counsel and/or MI Office of the Attorney General Consumer Protection Division at: www.michigan.gov/ag.

November 18, 2022 I paid $875 for a crown. When I went back three weeks later to get the crown put on it did not fit. The crown had to be sent back to the lab a total of two times because it did not fit my prepared tooth. The third time I went in the dentist said that I need to see a gum specialist because my gums were irritated and bleeding around that tooth. At that point I went for a second opinion and the dentist I saw said that my gums were messed up because of being in a terribly made temporary crown for so long. The new dentist was able to deliver a new crown within two weeks and I currently have no issues with my gums. I have been trying to get a refund on the crown that Great Expressions never put on my tooth since the beginning of March 2023 - it is now May 8 and Im still being told they are processing the refund.

After arriving for my schedule appointment today (4/25), I was told by the receptionist that I had called a day prior to reschedule the appointment. I reassured the receptionist that I did not call them. After leaving the office and calling back the receptionist stated that another patient with the first name was the one who called and they made a mistake and cancelled the wrong member's appointment. To my understanding this is a HIPAA violation. I would like to speak with someone before I consider filing a lawsuit against Great Expressions.

My son had a cleaning on 11/28/20022 with a in-network DMO provider at the ******************* My signed estimate signed at the time of service was for $0 out of pocket. In the months of January thru April of 2023, I have been sent multiple bills for $182 for services that were included in my dental plan. I have visited the office twice and spoke to ***** who has stated that she has over similar cases and has deferred the files to home office to resolve. I called Aetna in February of 2023 and did the job that ***** should have done and discovered that she had incorrectly submitted the claim as out of network which is incorrect. ***** attempted to call the corporate office and no one EVER answers the phone. My phone calls with ***** have confirmed that the bill was paid as part of the March capitation billing and this should have already been resolved 2 months ago. No one from Great Expressions will return my calls or emails to rectify this situation.

I went to Great Expressions dental for a teeth cleaning. They informed me that they required x-rays for the dentist to see **** told them to not do any procedures not covered by insurance, and that I was just there to get my yearly dental benefits provided by my insurance. They instead performed an x-ray that was not covered by my insurance and billed me $98 for this procedure. They also informed me after all of this they would not perform the teeth cleaning that visit. Their Yelp page is full of reviews with people having the same issue with predatory billing.***************************************************************************************************************************** Date of procedure: 12/7/2022 Cost: $98 I would appreciate Great Expressions Dental refunding the entire cost of the procedure as I did not go there for it, and did not request it, and actually made clear I did not want it if not covered by insurance which it wasn't. I was clear that I would rather just have the teeth cleaning with no x-rays if possible as I had already had x-rays the year prior.

I Signed a contract with great expressions dental on 08/06/2020 for my daughter braces. The contracted amount was $4410 which half was patient responsibility and other was insurance. $2205 was my portion to pay. $200 was my initial payment that was paid to start treatment which left my balance to $2005.00 16 payments @$118 and one final payment of $770.Is what document stated not realizing at the moment it was already over. Now, lets do the math 118x16= $1888 now 1888+770=$2658 now adding my $200 initial payment which will bring it to'$2858. The contracted price for me was only $2205 and contract I signed stated just that. Fast forward my balance been paid off over a year already. I have documents stating its zero balance, now when its time for removal of my daughter braces they are not removing them because they stated $542 needs to be paid before they remove them off and insurance is stating that we have met our **** I called great expressions on 3/8/2023 with insurance on the line and they explained to ***** that's with orthodontic department that Great expressions haven't submitted claims to them for ****** in a while and that we have no *** benefit limit and that the patient paid their portion and they cannot just transfer insurance responsibility to patient. ***** stated that she would send account for audit but this is the issue; audits were done numerous of times for this same reason which I thought was resolved up until time for removal of braces. Great expressions is refusing treatment to my daughter ****** and she's suffering a lot because the wire is cutting inside her mouth. To sum it all up I paid patient portion in full based on contract agreement, now great expressions is stating I owe them more money. The insurance company was never billed for claims and my daughter cant get her braces removed because of great expressions is trying to balance bill. In the mean time my daughter ****** is suffering.

This office has a very high turnover. I got my braces put on October of 2020. They constantly cancel appointments. I have been very understanding until now. I had an appointment on 10/21/23 the office called two hours before the appointment to cancel. They then rescheduled for the following day 10/22/23. I was THEN CALLED AGAIN 1 hour before my appointment stating that the system is down. I have gotten no call back or anything. I have tried to contact them SEVERAL times. No answer I have left several messages, no answer. I even went into the office. NO ONE was in the front. I waited a while and left. They removed my top wire earlier in the month. Therefore my money that I have paid is being wasted. My teeth are shifting. I have paid over $4000 out of pocket and have paid in full. I have NEVER cancelled an appointment. And now I cant get a call back or reschedule. I have taken off of work BOTH times. This is extremely inconvenient!!!!

I have been trying since 1/18/23 to get answers to my issue. I called the customer service #************ & can never get through. I have sent numerous emails to *********************** & get no place. You all sent me a letter last year about a credit of $56. I called to clarify my address & expected a check to be sent. In January when I did not receive I called again. I was told there was no credit. Next time I was told they would mail the check. The next time I checked (all with ***********************) she said it was turned over to state treasury. Several stories from the same person via email. *********** treasury doesnt have anything. I emailed her again requesting the tax id#, name it was sent to them under (my child or mine), exact amount and date. This was sent on 2/7. On 2/14, sent another email. Her response is "finance is pulling info". Sent another email on2/17, to date no response. This is not okay and someone should be able to get the CORRECT answers quicker than 30 BUSINESS DAYS!!!! Who can help me? The phone number listed as their corporate office is another location and noone there is able to assist in any concerns.

I had a debt in collections from Great Expressions Dental center. The debt was a total of $2000. This amount was garnished from my 2020 tax return. I checked my credit report and saw that my entire 2022 state return was garnished again from the same debt that was paid off in March of 2021. I was charged twice for the same debt. It's a fraudulent charge and I know that I'm not the first person that this has happened to. My name is ********************* and my son ************************* was the patient at GE orthodontic center in ****************.

I scheduled an appointment 3 months in advance to see this dentist. The day before the appointment, they told me that they would have to cancel and reschedule because she was going on vacation. I asked to get in the following week and they said the best they could do was another 3 months out. I was contacted a week ago about my appointment today asking if I could come earlier and I told them I couldn't, but that said it was okay. I was called this morning and told the dentist leaves at the time of my appointment and wasn't going to be able to make it. I asked to speak to the dentist and they said she wouldn't. 6 months waiting for an appointment and this is what I get. It sounds like a pattern with this business and they should be shut down for fraud.
