My experience with Dave's Sportland Rental on July 27th, 2021 was the worst experience Ive ever had with any company, which is not hyperbole.***** (one of the co-owners) arrived 15 minutes late to the boat landing, which isn't a big deal in the grand scheme of things, but it felt a little unfair after we had sternly been reminded to arrive early and had not received a courtesy call during the wait, so we asked him for a discount on the rental equivalent to the delivery fee (9% of the total rental cost). We anticipated that he would perhaps negotiate with us or politely refuse our request.Without hesitation, he picked up his paperwork, said he was canceling our rental and issuing a full refund, and started walking back toward his truck. It was much too quick of a decision for him to have given it any real thought in that moment. In fact, we initially thought he was joking. He started to leave so quickly that it seemed he had been planning on reneging on the deal before we even mentioned a discount.When we realized that he wasnt kidding, we told him we would pay the full amount to keep our rental. He refused and said he wouldnt deal with customers who asked for discounts. He said that he could easily rent the boat to somebody else that same day instead. He then explained that we could drive to his shop and pick up the boat ourselves, which was baffling because it was already there at the launch and he could clearly see we did not have a vehicle capable of towing the boat. This bizarre offer indicates to me that his refusal to rent to us may have simply been an act of ***** retribution brought on by a bruised ego.Im sure ***** will reply to this review to defend himself and he may even claim that I am stretching the truth. You will have to judge for yourself whether you think his actions were justified or not. You may still choose to roll the dice and give your business to this man, but I recommend with every fiber of my being that you do not.
