New to Area and I needed a mower repair. Took my mower to Smitherman's Hardware this past Saturday. Looked like good place to do business. He was not! I was quoted a price of $100 to repair my push mower. Explained to their Employee that my mower is old and if it will cost me more than $100 I would not leave it for repair. Employee confirmed that all the parts were on hand and he assured me that the price would be about $100. Assured it would not take more than a few days, I agreed to the repair. Then I was told I must put up a $50.00 Deposit and it would be applied to the repair. But then on Monday, I get a call from the shop saying the repairs we had agreed on Saturday were now going to costs me another $145 on top of the $50.00. They doubled the price. This is not what I agreed to so I declined the repairs and asked to simply return the mower and my deposit. I was told by the manager that the employee did not have the authority to say what he said to me to get me to give them the job and he would not refund my deposit. I feel totally ripped off and the manager thinks I am the problem for listening to his employee. Manger blames his employee and takes my money... false promise and no delivery. Bad Management up $50.00 his justification/excuse is the employee was not authorized to speak for company. Customer is out $50.00 and total and exasperating waste of my time.
