Advanced Marine has convinced me that they are capable of unethical business practices, and that they are not the reputable business I believed them to be. I believe the best predictor of future behavior is that of relevant past behavior and, for that reason, I will not use or recommend them. On February 3, 2023, I hired them to restore gelcoat on my boat, and re-upholster three seat cushions, and agreed upon completion date of before April 1, 2023. On March 8, 2023, I hired them to perform the additional work of replacing the Gimbal Ring, and to repair two small areas of fiberglass and gelcoat, with a renewed agreement of all work complete by May 1, 2023. They did not complete the work as promised. Despite my persistent follow-up and continual verbal expression of dissatisfaction, they did not complete the work until March 25, 2024. Even more concerning was the unethical business practice of Advanced Marine misleadingly giving me five additional completion dates, of August 18, 2023, October 20, 2023, November 17, 2023, March 1, 2024, and March 22, 2024, as they repeatedly made excuses and held my boat “hostage” in various states of dismantlement. While my gross over tolerance of their deceit can justifiably be deemed unwise, gently pushing the job to completion was considered to be the only option as the boat was off the trailer, on stands with engine and lower unit removed, and with the fiberglass of the hull and transom exposed a significant amount of the time. On October 11, 2024, they narrowly escaped accountability as my civil suit for their Breach of Contract (Iredell County 24CVM 761), which only fell short due to the Court’s inability to compensate for the loss of use associated with a pleasure craft (no “injury” arising as a result of the defendant’s breach), was not appealed following the lower court’s ruling being upheld in arbitration. The only blanket explanation they ever stated, and testified to, was that the job “took longer than expected”.
