I purchased a car from ********************* from ********* ************** 18 days ago. Upon inspection, the car is deemed unsafe to drive. It has extensive rusting underneath that impacts the integrity of the chassis. Due to the rusting on the unibody, I was advised to get an estimate from a welding shop. On 8/5, I was told that the repair would be $1800. We texted **************** to inform him of the extent of the repair and renegotiate the sale. **************** did not respond. We decided to move forward with the repair; however, upon further inspection (8/15), more extensive rusting was found on both left and right front sides of the frame. In addition, the bushings needed to be replaced, an additional cost of $1100. I was told the car was unsafe to drive and would not pass inspection. Now I am out $3700+ and still without a working vehicle. While I do understand, as **************** stated, "this is the risk you take when you buy a used car", a consumer should not be dealing with this extensive of an issue within the first 30 days of purchase; nor should a consumer be ignored when seeking to renegotiate/return. The purchase was "as is" yet there was no mention of this problem or how it was reflected in the price, in the advertisement. As a wholesale car dealer, he should be willing to renegotiate, and he wasn't. While **************** said that the 3700 was a good price for a 2012 **** Escape, that doesn't matter if the frame is rusted. He should've renegotiated or at best, to maintain his integrity, given some money back. I had to junk the car. Beware, he doesn't care about his customers.
