I am writing to share my experience in the pediatric unit last week. I want to start by saying we brought our son back to the hospital he was born in because of our labor and delivery experience; however, that proved truly to be a mistake. I also want to give kudos to the nurses and nursing assistants that did help us during our stay: ******, ********** and one assistant to replaced ********** I never got her name. The first misstep at the hospital was my son being misdiagnosed by the ER nurse, ***********************. ****** came in and told us our son had COVID with much certainty. 30 minutes later , ****************** came in and said *** did not have COVID. 20 min after that we were told it was a lab error. I truly believe ****** read the results wrong and the Dr wanted to avoid fault. No one ever apologized.Once we were moved to our room, everything and everyone was great. Except for the nursing assistant you came to take vitals that night. She not only woke him up when I finally got him down, she tied the bumpers in his crib around his IV line and also hit his IV somehow so now it was leaking. The nurses then that to reestablish the IV and make sure it wasnt leaking. While they were very gentle, my son was in pain once again and didnt fall asleep until 3am when ****** gave me the ok to have him lay with him after she bumpered the bed.The next morning at 9am after just getting my infant back to sleep, someone charges into the room, turning in all the lights. They didnt introduce themselves, tell me who they were or what they were there to do. I just so happened to see her ID and remembered that ****** had told me there would be another blood draw in the morning. Irdine, the Flobotomist, was ****************** and very forceful. In addition to her not prepping me, she did not prep my son either. She swiftly came in and started the blood draw and was sternly asking for my help. When I told her I didnt realize she was speaking to me because I too was just woken up abruptly by her, she became more ***** and aggressive with us.I asked ********** who was there to take vitals for her name and she couldnt recall. ****** had been gone by now for several hours and I still hadnt met our new nurse. I finally had to call for her around 10am. ****** came in, seemingly irritated and cold. She softened a bit after I started talking to her which honestly isnt my job. Dr ******* came in around 10/1030am and we were reviewing everything. His tone and questions were very accusatory and made me feel for lack of a better wordidiotic. I made the nurse aware that his eye was swollen and asked if it was because of the IV. He gave me a look as if that was a dumb question. I explained that Myself and my partner get puffy while on IVs. I then asked if his right eye could be swollen because of the IV splint on his right hand from him rubbing his face like he usually does. He, again, looked at me like I asked an idiotic question. He said absolutely not and that it was most likely a skin infection or start to a sty. After my sons IV was shut off on 12/30, his eye swelling completely subsided. The final straw was when we were getting ready to be discharged and ****** removed my sons IV. She was not as gentle as the nurses were the previous morning. She bandaged his hand and I just so happened to check his gauze and it was soaked in blood only minutes after his IV was removed. I called for the nurse and the assistant came in. Just as she did, ****** also did and the assistant explained why I called. Shellys response was ok.as ****** entered the room I looked at her very confused and ****** told me that wasnt an emergency. Her entire demeanor was as if I was frantic and she was completely unbothered by my concerns. I immediately showed her the gauze and told her that was unacceptable. She pushed back saying that happens sometimes and its normal. I have attached the photo for reference. After our back and forth, Dr ******* reentered the room and attempted to scold me as if he was my father. I let him know outside of the few nurses, our experience with him and ****** specifically has been terrible. I let him know his tone with me earlier was condescending and uncalled for. The Dr never apologized and told me he didnt appreciate the way i spoke to his nurses. I told him the only nurse I spoke to with force was ****** because of how were treated by her throughout the day. Dr ******* attempted to explain that the mount of blood was normal and I stopped him and told him unless something was wrong with my son, I no longer wished to speak with anyone on the staff. He kept pushing and trying to continue the conversation and multiple times I told him the conversation was over.No one spoke out of turn to me at all whenever my sons father was present. Dealing with a 5month old in the hospital who is petrified and we are treated as if it was our fault he was in the hospital is inexcusable. ****** refused to bring the paperwork in for me to sign and my sons father was forced to sign everything 20 minutes after we were promised the paperwork when he arrived to pick us up. I have never experienced this level of disrespect or lack of empathy. Anyone who works in pediatrics should be full of empathy and warmth. I understand were in a pandemic and everyone in the hospital is overworked. But i was very understanding and amenable to everyone i came in contact with until those last moments.
