A man came to my home and asked me if Nielsen could come back next week and hook up a box to my tv for rating what I watched. He gave me a gift card for 50$. The card was expired and could not be activated. I was scammed.Business response

i feel like i need explain the service that i received from Nielsen Media Research. They monitor your TV use throughout your house to provide market research for advertisers, etc., & pay you money to simply "watch TV" Nielsen had solicited to my house a few times before, but i never accepted their offer, & around October of 2023 I accepted. I thought it was important for advertisers to know what my demographic was watching, and from the sales **** setup would only take an hour and i wouldn't experience any issues with TV watching after that (ex. it would be like their equipment was never even there with no connectivity issues). They also mentioned the program was a 5 year enrollment so effectively i was getting paid for 5 years to just watch TV The sales *** collected all my and my family's personal info which i expected. So here is where the issues started:1) The initial set up did not take 2 hours. It took 6 hours and they had to come back the next day and finish. 2) Shortly after set up was completed a few days later my PS5 wouldn't connect properly.3) When i called the *** to fix this, they never responded and i had to call corporate to find out that *** had quit and i had a new *** (without ever being notified)4) I experienced connectivity issues on a few TVs which required techs to come out who couldn't figure out how to fix it.5) Lastly, and probably the worst thing is that they informed me a few weeks ago that my term in the program had ended and they needed to come get their equipment. So instead of 5 years i was only in the program for 5 months. I considered this a deceptive sales act as i never would have enrolled had i would been told they could come out and cancel when they wanted (not when i wanted). The only useful person was a tech named **** who was helpful. I was told that i could receive compensation for my experience. From my estimations i would have been paid 500 over the course of 5 years which i feel like is fair to ask to receive,Business response

Hello ****,
Our Field Manager **** ***** , spoke to you in regards to your household participation. He stated the panel agreement that you signed states that either party can terminate participation at anytime. In return, we would then remove the equipment from your household ending participation.
Also, our records show that you recieved two checks from Nielsen. One that was paid in 2023 for $475.00 and this year (2024) for $125.00.

Nielsen **************...and probably other numbers have called me again and again the last two months. Probably 15 to 20 calls or more. As late as 9:15 PM and as early as 7:45 am. Calls during dinner and all times of the day. I when I asked them not to call me again, they just continue with whatever they are trying to get from me. I just want them to stop calling as I consider this to be harassment. Thank you.Business response

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# ********, and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:I reviewed the businesses response and was highly perplexed, it is incoherent, as you can see, I referenced two recent uncredited surveys I completed, and the business stated something about not finding any records for surveys taken in August 2023. I never referenced any uncredited surveys from that time frame in my complaint to BBB. This is *** 2024.
Additionally, I didn't receive any voicemail that the business indicates.
I want to thank BBB for its efforts to resolve something that in my opinion is rather simple although your intervention was unfruitful its appreciated all the same.

My family filled out 3 survey cards and submitted them on 4/23. I spoke to a representative on 5/20 to inquire about the status of our payments. She told me they did not have a record of receiving them and that the checks were mailed last week and there was nothing she could do. I asked what can be done since my family spent their time filling out 3 surveys. She rudely replied "nothing". I explained that there has to be something and she cut me off. I asked what the process is to be removed from future surveys and she said "you have been removed, goodbye" and hung up on me. I just want what is fair; we filled out 3 surveys and would like to be paid what we were promised. If these surveys we lost, misplaced by *******, etc., that is not my fault.Business response

This company calls me at least 10 tiimes a day. I have told them every time, I am not interested to please take my number off and not contact me again. They continue to keep talking over me while I am telling them to quit calling. If I hang up, they call right back and refuse me telling them to stop calling not interested. They are harassing me. When someone says they are not interested listen. This company will not take no for an answer. They just keep talking and will not let you off of the phone unless you hang up. I applied for Nielsen on May 13,2023 from an advertisement I found on ********* Contact was continued via email and they requested all future conversations to be via ******** app. They asked questions and got all my personal information like how a job will ask for ID, social security, job information, even paystubs, and more. They said Ill be doing data analysis and then a day later said Ill be buying equipment and gift cards for other employees using my credit cards. I used my credit cards of ******** ***** ***** ********************** *** *****t. I bought several stuff from the Apple Store send them to an address for **** Communications. They said they will return them back to me after uploading and downloading programs but never did. They gave me a checking account number and routing number to pay the credit card after I made the gift card purchase. I would pay it off and then they would ask for more gift cards which I took photos to send them to. The checks get returned after several days. This kept happening til August 2023. They asked me to open a greendot card to get paid but never was paid. They even asked me to get phones from T-Mobile which were also sent to **** communications. They kept contacting me on ******** and asking for more gift cards which I stopped replying to them. All my credit cards are now closed and full. Im paying them off a little by little by having a settlement plan from the credit card companies. Please help me to get these credit cards and ******* bills paid off. Was continued via email and they requested all future to conversations to be via ******** app.Business response

When ever Nielsen invites individuals to participate in any of our many different surveys, we will never ask you to upload any money via gift card or your Social security number or paystubs.Please be assured any identifiable information you choose to share with Nielsen would be held strictly confidential. However, in this case I believe you may have been a victim of online scammers, as Nielsen will never ask you to give us any money in order to participate with us.
We recommend contacting your local authorities and reporting this incident to the police.

They sent a survey to which I spent over 2 hours on. They said if I sent it back theyd send me ***** dollars cash. Its been roughly half a year since. Ive since called and submitted a support ticket with no responses. On the phone after ************************************************************************** that department. I asked for a number to call for the right department and they told me there wasnt one and I needed to use the support contact. I did so and have not gotten anything after 2 months. This individual BBB complaint is in regards to not being compensated for participating in a Nielsen Survey, However based on all the info he provided Name, Address & phone number. We have no record of him participating in any of our surveys & we did a very broad search for his information coming back with no results.
I did inform him that we have no information of him participating , but also it would not disqualify him from participating in the future if he were to be selected.

Thank you for your inquiry.The Nielsen Company measures viewing audiences for broadcast and cable television. The Nielsen Designated Market Area (DMATM) region is a trademarked term that refers to a group of counties that form an exclusive geographic area.
Each year, The Nielsen Company analyzes viewing within every county in the country to determine which stations receive the majority of viewing and assigns each county to the appropriate DMATM region based on which stations receive the majority of viewing within the county. As a result, each DMATM region consists of those counties whose largest viewing share is to stations within that same market area. There are 210 DMATM regions covering the entire continental *************, ******, and parts of ******. The composition of those DMATM regions is information that is proprietary to The Nielsen Company and provided to clients under license.
As further information, in accordance with government regulations, satellite service providers use our DMATM region designations to help them decide which local stations are appropriate to be included in their local broadcast service for a given DMATM region (if such service is provided). However, The Nielsen Company is not responsible for, or in any way involved in, those decisions although our information is used. We do not know how the satellite providers make their decisions and we do not advise them. The Satellite Home Viewer Extension and Reauthorization Act of 2004 (SHVERA), enacted by Congress, uses Nielsens DMATM region definitionseven though our DMATM regions are not intended or designed to be used this wayas the basis for determining whether television stations are considered local or distant, and therefore which stations can be made available by satellite providers to their subscribers in a given area. The **** government determines which stations satellite providers may provide for their local service. The Nielsen Company's only role is to measure television viewing.
