On June 28, 2023, BBB contacted Ship Auto Now LLC regarding a high volume and pattern of serious complaints. BBB received complaints alleging: Consumers are being notified that a contracted price for service is being increased by hundreds of dollars even after verbally being told it wouldn’t increase, sometimes just days before the service is to provided.
We have also identified a pattern in your responses to complaints stating that your contract has a provision in it that justifies the increase, and if the consumer is not happy, you can refund the deposit.
BBB notified Ship Auto Now LLC about the pattern of complaints and asked the business to voluntarily cooperate in eliminating the pattern by providing a written response outlining the specific steps it would implement in order to avoid similar complaints in the future. BBB also requested general information including the names & full contact information of the business’ principal officers and responsible management, associations with other businesses and a completed BBB Standard Business Questionnaire.
The business responded to the pattern of complaints with the following statement:
Our Business model is designed in such a way that sometimes there could be a change in the initial quote we offer to the customer.
We are Auto Transportation Brokers, so when the customer calls in to move their vehicle we look into the systems/tools to check recent moves that happened in the same route and give an estimated price accordingly. However, at the end these are the drivers who actually dictate the price and our job is to get back to the customer and inform them about the price the drivers are demanding for it. Then we do negotiations with both Drivers and the customers and try to move their vehicles at the best price possible and make sure the vehicles are safely transported. Even then if the customer does not wish to proceed, they have the right to get their money back from us if they paid us upfront.
We do understand the pricing is a big concern for the consumers and we are training ourselves and the employees to improve on it so that we can become more satisfactory to our customers.

My car was pick up on last week Thursday from Desmoines to Oregon I never heard from anybody the driver that I was given the number to call he told me he is not the one who was to deliver my car..I am stuck here wondering what to do and who to call to know my car status..Business response

I was quoted a price and sent a deposit. Then was told over the phone the price couldn’t change and I proceeded. The price of course did change and I was told he was sending a driver at a higher cost for my car. When he said this I requested the drivers information and called him myself. The driver had no knowledge of this company and said he was not in fact coming. At this point I realized he scammed my deposit and wasn’t actually sending a driver. When I called him out for this he said the guy I called was confused and if I didn’t agree to pay more money I’d have to pay a cancellation fee of a service that wasn’t ever being provided.Business response

I booked for my car to be shipped with Ship Auto now. As soon as they got me to pay my deposit via **** ***, they stopped responding to all calls and emails. I emailed and left voicemails multiple times about changing my shipment date with no response. No one answers their mainline. I emailed now with plenty advance (they require 24 hours notice and I am over a week ahead of that) so I want my $150 deposit refunded back to me. They aren't answering so I have no way of rectifying this directly with them.Business response

On 3/08/2023 I e-signed an agreement to transport my 2005 **** **** pickup truck from Arlington Tennessee to Chicago Illinois. The total cost to ship was $400 dollars. On Friday March 10, 2023 i received a text saying the price now is $700. I send them $100 via cash app, which was excepted. My balance on delivery should be $300. My truck broke down 2/24/23. I attempted to go through car shipping service as I was 150 miles from home and towing out of my price range. I spoke with 1 company who said they had a driver and after a few hrs was contacted by another company stating this company was lying to me and did not have a driver as they had me posted, looking for one. Ship auto said they are lying to you, they don't have a driver but we have one now and can get it picked up tonight or Saturday morning. They also told me the contract the other company had sent me was a fraud. They then sent me a screenshot showing the 1st company, true carriers, did not have a driver. I gave them the 100$ deposit through *******, as they said they already had a driver at that time, already set up for me,while other companies were still looking. Saturday comes&goes. Sunday comes&goes. The gas station my truck was parked at, had to refuse a shipment of gas,& the manager was now risking her job to save me towing fees. I then start getting messages from other companies showing me that ship auto does not have a driver& is looking for one for me. I told him he had lied and he offered a refund. After accepting the refund he said he found a driver which I am asking why are you looking for a driver if you already said I can have a refund? He is still refusing stating I must pay $200 cancelation. He scammed me from the very beginning. Everything he said was a lie and all of our communication was through texts so I have everything he said, showing he lied to get my deposit. I contacted one of “Ship Auto Now” employees named Robin on Feb 15th morning for quoting my car shipment from Greensboro, NC 27409 to Portland, OR 97229 at $1,100. According to our text messages and conversations, the quoted $1,100 price includes all fees, taxes, insurance, door-to-door service, and 150-lb luggage. My desired pickup dates are from Feb 16th – 18th that Robin confirmed to pickup my car before Feb 18th texted on Feb 16th morning. On Feb 17th morning, Robin contacted me to pickup your car by Feb 18th at 7:21AM PDT and will be deliver in 6 to 7 days maximum which looks everything is on track. However, the shipment fee was increased to $1,750 from $1,100 that is not acceptable. Robin told me his manager negotiated with the truck drivers and the new price is $1,600. I would like to cancel the order and get my $150 deposit back. However, the manager told me that I need to pay $200 cancelation fee. “Ship Auto Now” expertise in the car shipment business and should know how to evaluate the reasonable quotation to his customers without taking its customers and itself in risks. “Ship Auto Now” know that I left my car key to my neighbor who has a little boy to take care and I left Greensboro on Feb 15th afternoon. I can extend the pickup time to Feb 19th with $1,100 ship cost or “Ship Auto Now’ refunds my $150 deposit/upfront-payment and waive any penalties on the order contract.Business response

Better Business Bureau: I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below. Ship Auto Now has been working in the car shipment business for a while and should know what the reasonable shipment price is before providing a text quotation? The original quoted price for my car shipment was $1,100 and pickup date was Feb 18th, 2023. I told Ship Auto Now that I lost my job on Feb 10th and left my car key to my neighbor for the truck driver to load my car. The broker of Ship Auto Now contacted me on Feb 17th and told me to pick up my car on Feb 18th but the price was changed to $1,750 that was around 59% higher than the original quoted price. Ship Auto Now agreed to reduce the price to $1,600 that was around 45% higher than the original quoted price. The broker told me that the price was the only driver who could accept and another driver asked $1,900 to pick up my car. The easiest way is Ship Auto Now to cancel the order and refund my $150 upfront payment due to its price increased that is higher than other BBB rating A+ brokers' quoted prices, however Ship Auto Now insisted me that must be charged a $200 cancellation fee. The broker company's reason was the quoted price may increase and I signed the contract that was not applied to the broker's committed texted quotation at $1,100 was invalid. I emphasized to cancel and waive the $200 cancellation fee is the best solution to create a WIN-WIN to both parties but it was rejected by Ship Auto Now. According to Robin’s commitment, my car should be picked up on Feb 18th and should be in Portland after 6 to 7 days (Feb 24th – 25th) with paying $1,100 shipment. I don't want to add more burdens to my neighbor who needs take care of her little boy and I don't have choice to accept Ship Auto Now's new prices at $1,250. My hourly rate is over $90/hour before I lost my job and have been working for more than 10-hours with the Ship Auto Now brokers, **** ******* ******** dispatcher and driver, my neighbor, and evidence collection for filing a complaint to BBB. My car was loaded by the trucker on Feb 24th around noon, but I felt guilty to my neighbor has been changing the pickup dates and times many times resulted from the Ship Auto Now's de-commitments and freight company's internal miscommunications. It is important for Ship Auto Now knowing to keep its commitment when you are running businesses. I hope that I am the last customer being trapped by Ship Auto Now's de-commitments, I disagree to close this case and request Ship Auto Now to reimburse my losses. All reimbursements including my time, late arrival of my car, and additional charges will be donated to BBB, but excluding the increased $150 that should be compensated to me for sustaining my car shipment at $1,100. I signed contract on an agreeable price and delivery date. After being quoted price and pickup the same day I agreed to both and paid deposit. After signing contract and sending $150 deposit I was told truck broke down and they couldnt.fullfill my shipping quote. I want refund and they won't provide $150 can you help. Paid a deposit for my 2021 ***** model 3 and ***** *** to be shipped from 1*** *** ********* *** **** ***** ****** ** ***** and to be delivered to **** ****** **** ******* ** ***** on November 9th a deposit of $300 was required to schedule a pick up day for the vehicles (Tuesday , November 15th). On that day we were told the “truck had broken down” this went on for 3 days. They kept saying that they could not get another truck. We requested a refund as they could not fulfill what they were hired for and they refused. This is unprofessional and unethical. They made no attempt to rectify the issue what so ever. After multiple phone calls they offer a $50 refund (that was never sent). I attempted to request a refund via cash app as that is how they required to be paid and reported them for fraud but cash app was unable to collect the funds back. Attached is the original order. We were never told that if they were unable to fulfill the contracted rate and day we requested that they would keep our deposit.Business response

Requested that my vehicle be shipped. Was quoted with a confirmed driver and date at $950. The day my vehicle was supposed to be picked up, they said “The driver died” and now I needed to pay double the amount to ship the vehicle. I asked for proof that there was an actual driver that died (this would void the price in the contract due to an “act of God”). Was not provided with any info. Requested a refund of my $200 deposit and they said I needed to pay an additional $200 to cancel the contract. I have all of this in writing so there is no confusion. In summary, they quote you low with a confirmed driver and then do a “bait & switch” once you have paid them a deposit.Business response

On 8-17-22 I contacted this company to have my vehicles shipped to my new place of residence. They ultimately asked for a $500 deposit, and the remaining fee upon delivery would be $1375 for the service. The only way they wanted to take payment was through the app "*****" which made me feel slightly uncomfortable but I paid the deposit. They stated that my vehicles would be picked up to ship on either 8-22-22 or 8-23-22 On the 22nd I called to confirm if this would be the day they would come for the service and they stated that it was, and they would be at my address from 11am-4pm. Some time after they told me that they would not be able to come on this day and they would be here the following day around the same window of time. The next day I called and they said they would be at my address at approximately 12pm. They told me later that they not only wouldn't be coming, but they never even found a driver in the first place on either of these dates. Almost every single time getting off the phone with their representative, Ryan W*******, he stated he would call me back and I was the one having to call in to check up on what was going on because it seemed they would forget about me. After many calls to Ryan, he stated that in order to get a driver I had to pay $2500. I told him that was unacceptable, and he told me this was the only fee the driver would accept, I declined to do this referring back to one of our prior conversations where he said the delivery fee would not exceed $1500. He ended up asking if a driver could come at 11pm for this same $2500 fee. It was explained to Ryan that I did not wish to pay this and the time did not work either. After saying I no longer wanted their services, I spoke to a supervisor that all of the sudden stated a driver was on the way and would be at my address at that 11pm time. On top of wasting my time and being unprofessional, they would not accept my request to discontinue service. 11pm is not a time to be doing business.Business response
