Handyman on Call required a $40.00 deposit to provide an estimate. I paid them $40.00 on June 3, 2024 to provide an estimate for pressure washing our deck and to build deck rails. I gave them cash. I was told they would provide an estimate within 48 hours. They never provided an estimate. I called the business and left messages. No phone calls were returned.Initial Complaint

We hired Handyman On Call to do updates on our sun room including a new door. We paid for the door and the labor but the owner cancelled the order due to alleged difficulties with the store *******) and delivery. He never provided the promised receipts/invoices for materials, but he wrote us a check for much less than the door cost (from the link he sent me) and did not include the labor we paid for (we have a grand total on our contract, but not itemized). I contacted ****** before he supposedly cancelled the order, but they had no record of it at all. They helped me determine the minimum the door could have cost (may have been more) which came to $234.39 more than he reimbursed us, and I came up with my best guess for labor (which came out to $631.14, which is actually less than the $678 we ended up paying a **** ***** contractor to install the door, so is not an unreasonable total to request). I have sent emails and made multiple calls for almost 3 months but he is not answering and has not paid us the rest of what he owes us. There were also some problems with the work done that he said would be fixed but still have not been fixed.Initial Complaint

June 21, 2022 9AM - a workman from Andy on Call came to my home at *** ** ********* *** to look at some home repairs that needed to be done, and to give me a quote for the cost to do them. The repairs included replace the worn threshold for the front door, secure a dryer vent hose, put an upstairs bathroom window back on its track mechanism, seal air leaks around a basement window, and reglue/attach basement flooring pieces around hearth and at doorways. On Monday, June 27, the repairs were done, and I gave the workman a check for $1,185.11. In August, furniture was moved out through the front door, and the threshold sagged, leaving a gap. I called Andy on Call and left a message for John, the scheduler/owner. On September 8 at 4 PM, another handyman came to fix the sagging threshold, but it did not hold because the first handyman had only cut back the threshold and put down a new front half, instead of replacing the whole threshold board, thereby leaving it in a weakened, unworkmanlike state. I called Andy on Call, or Handyman on Call, as John said the new name was, and another workman came to look at the problem on November 15 at 4PM. He recognized that the repair needed was more than what the first two workmen had attempted. He said that he would have to talk to the office to schedule the work, and we agreed that it should be done as soon as possible before colder weather arrived. I suggested the following Wednesday, November 23 or Friday, November 25, or any weekend. Since then, no one from Andy/Workman on Call has called me, or accepted my calls. The entire threshold board needs to be replaced in a workmanlike manner, not just cut in half horizontally to replace the front half, thereby making it worse than it was before the workman cut the threshold in half, horizontally, and making it weaker and creating a gap between the threshold and the door frame.Business response

2.2.2023, BBB received vm from John with business stating business did change their name. John stated that work was done based on visual assesment. Upon further review, extensive wood rot that was not visable at time of quote. Dave said he would respond asking for more time as he needs to pull up customer's file information. He said posible offer may be to refund consumer for work not completed as to fix wood rot is going to be very costly project.Customer response

I am rejecting this response because: it neither commits to do the needed repair correctly, nor does it refund my payment; John's response says maybe. Also, it says wood rot, which was never mentioned before; it was just worn. I want a firm commitment to do the work on March 23, 8-5 pm, or refund all my money before that date. His workmen have left my front threshold in worse shape than before they touched it. John has had plenty of time to solve this issue since the last time he sent a workman in mid-November, 2022; he has not communicated in the intervening three months.
Regards,
