The following describes a pending government action that has been formally brought by a government agency but has not yet been resolved. We are providing a summary of the government's allegations, which have not yet been proven.

On November 23, 2021, the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Bureau of Consumer Protection (BCP) announced the filing of a lawsuit against Internet Hobbies, LLC, Hobby Models, LLC, and its owners for allegedly violating the Pennsylvania Unfair Trade Practices and Consumer Protection Law.  Specifically, the suit alleges these parties failed to deliver products as promised, failed to refund consumers’ money, and failed to register fictitious names. 

The lawsuit further alleges that despite being more than two-years behind on fulfilling some consumers’ orders, the defendants have continued to accept orders and collect money. When consumers reached out to inquire about the status of their orders, they would allegedly be ignored or provided excuses. In several instances, the defendants would allegedly refuse refunds for undelivered items or tell the customers that the refund was issued even though that was not the case.  

The BCP advises consumers to be aware of other business names used by the defendants, including Hobby Wheels, Hobby Rails, Hobby Book Depot, Red Star Hobbies, Military Model Depot, Model Airplane Depot, Model Railroad Depot, Model Ship Depot, Gundam World Online, Model Kit Closeouts, and Model Train Closeouts.

The complaint seeks a permanent injunction against the defendants from continuing to engage in any deceptive or illegal business practices, civil penalties, as well as full restitution and costs of the investigation.  The BCP also advises consumers who have been affected by these companies to contact the attorney general's office at 800-441-2555 or www.attorneygeneral.gov.
