I called my mechanic and begged him to let me bring it in and he said okay. I drove as slow as I could and breathed a big sigh of relief as I arrived, but my car was not happy. Monday morning my mechanic called me to say the oil change people had screwed up. They had drained my transmission fluid instead of my oil, and then poured the new oil into the engine with the dirty oil! I was four quarts over!!!! My mechanic had cleaned out my engine, put transmission fluid where it had been drained, and wrote a report of his findings concerning the oil change at SpeeDee. The car seems to have survived this malpractice at SpeeDee, but rather than apologize and pay for the damage they caused by their incompetence, SpeeDee showed me some fine print on their contract and claimed since I had taken it to my regular mechanic and not them they were not liable for the repair bill. I have had over a hundred oil changes in my long life and no one ever drained my transmission and poured new oil into the old oil. It never even crossed my mind that this sudden problem was because they screwed up. They said they would take care of it when I called on Monday, but instead have weaseled out, and I do believe they have no legal leg to stand on. I have called them at every level and no one ever answers the phone or returns my calls. I cannot overstate how despicable I think the management is at SpeeDee Oil in Summerville. This new team has been there just a couple years. I always got good service and treatment from the former owners. The current owners have completely failed to honor their commitments. I want to warn anyone who is looking for a reliable local oil change service do not go to SpeeDee.
I have had the worst possible experience with SpeeDee Oil Change. On July 29 I dropped my car off for an oil change. An hour later I picked it up and drove home, less than two miles away. On Friday I drove the car downtown to Charleston and it started acting up with a choppy ride. i called my mechanic to see if I could bring it to him on Monday. When I drove home several hours later, the oil light and check engine light started flashing and several other lights did too. I called my mechanic to see if I could bring it in immediately and drove slow and prayed till I got it back to Summerville where i dropped it off. Monday my mechanic called to say that the transmission had been emptied and there were four extra quarts of oil in the engine. SpeeDee had emptied my transmission instead of my engine oil, and then they poured in six quarts of oil causing my engine to go nuts. I called them and with documentation went to see them on Monday. The manager, Adam, said he would turn my paperwork in to their claims department and they would call me. Thursday came and I had not heard a word. I called SpeeDee and Adam was out. The assistant manager said that Adam said they would not pay for my damages because of some fine print on their contract which as I have read it does not apply to this situation at all. He gave me a district manager's number, and I called three times. No answer. Tried customer service on the web-site. No answer. No matter how many times I have called, no one answers or will take responsibility for their automotive malpractice. It cost $498 to repair my car. It could have been much worse. They should pay for that and refund me the $49.53 they charged me for an oil change they never gave me, but instead drained my transmission fluid, didn't refill it, and poured six quarts into the dirty oil in my engine. These people are beyond disappointing. I think they are criminals. I am not sure what to do, but I will take legal action against them.
