After buying our second car from JC Honda, I came in to get an additional key cut, as only a Honda dealership can cut Honda keys. The parts manager who cut the key, tested the key in the ignition and the ignition cylinder broke. While JC Honda affirms the ignition cylinder was faulty to begin with, the 11 year old / 150,000 van never had issues until the new key was inserted. After they broke it, the technician confirmed via visual inspection with a flashlight, that the pins inside the ignition had been damaged. They gave me a service estimate of over $1,200 dollars, but never said it was urgent. After a trip to the grocery store, the vehicle would not start until 20 minutes of trying. Then when I got home, the vehicle wouldn't start.
I had the vehicle towed to my trusted mechanic of 30 years who performed the service for $650 ($350 honda part + labor).
After going back to JC Honda to ask for reimbursement I was treated terribly. First, they only offered me a refund of $17.26 (cost of key metal + cut). But that was neither fair or right. Then they offered me $17.26 + 8 oil filters. Which was rescinded within 20 minutes of the offer. After over a dozen of calls and in person attempts to speak with leadership, they finally offered a future service credit of $300. This equates to about 3 oil changes or $150 in oil as I perform my own oil changes.
They state the ignition tumbler breaks frequently, but after speaking with mechanics and Honda dealerships in the area, this happens about 1 out of 1,000,00 cars.
Throughout this process, the entire JC Honda staff spoke in a way that was pushy, condescending, rude and unprofessional. They refused to even meet me half way to cover the cost of my service bill. They affirm they will not reimburse any person or business for service they did not do. My family has purchased 20+ cars from JC Honda in the last 30 years, I will never set foot in JC Honda again.
