Objective Superlative:
The business’s website claims to use “only the top industry cleaning agents” and that they “also have the industry’s #1 and most effective fabric protector designed.” According to BBB’s Code of Advertising, “superlative statements in advertisements about the tangible qualities and performance values of a product or service are objective claims for which the advertiser must possess substantiation as they can be based upon accepted standards or tests. As statements of fact, such claims, like ‘#1 in new car sales in the city,’ can be proved or disproved.”
Environmental Benefit Claims:
The business’s website claims that to have “cleaning agents that are child, pet and environmentally friendly are used” and that “our environmentally and family friendly pre-spray will help loosen all types of soil.” According to BBB’s Code of Advertising, “advertisers should avoid broad, unqualified environmental claims such as ‘green,’ or ‘eco-friendly.’ Other claims such as ‘degradable,’ ‘recycled,’ and ‘non-toxic,’ should only be used when substantiated and properly qualified. Environmental Certifications and seals of approval may be used if properly issued. Additional disclosures are needed if not issued by an independent third-party.”
Claimed Results:
The business’s website claims that “our powerful vacuum will deep clean and remove up to 80% of the loose soils that are damaging your carpet. Using HEPA 11 filtration and MicroAllergen technology removes 99.97% of household dust, pollen, mites and more.” According to BBB’s Code of Advertising, “claims relating to performance, energy savings, safety, efficacy or results for a product or service should be based on recent and competent testing or other objective data.”
As of June 28, 2023, the business hasn’t fulfilled BBB’s requests to substantiate, modify, or discontinue these claims.
