Charged fees for service not done. Towed my car to the garage on a Tuesday and on the following Thursday the owner told me that they would not get to fix my car because there was no one to do it, but still going to charge $150 for diagnostics for my car. The shop has no technician and just lures customers in pretending to offer service but would not.

The diagnostic fee was discussed in detail with this customer. He called me several times before he towed his vehicle to us. He had a suspicion that his LF CV axle was leaking. I asked him SEVERAL times if he just wanted us to replace the CV axle with no diagnostic or whether he wanted us to confirm his diagnosis (he is not a mechanic). He agreed for us to diagnose his issue and also agreed to the $150.00 charge that is also posted CLEARLY at our front door. These days (given the state of the economy), I am VERY clear about diagnostic charges, as it takes time and money for us to look at a vehicle. I have been a service writer (and part owner) of our establishment for a decade and know that if I'm not clear about fees, it upsets customers and I (solely) have to deal with the "fall out" when they get upset about anything. I work smarter, not harder and have been doing this long enough to know that communication is key when dealing with fees and cost of repairs.It is unfair and absolutely wrong to state that we "lure" our customers into our shop. I do not have any control over employees that decide to quit without notice. I was VERY honest with this customer as I do not want to hold anyone's vehicle without proper communication concerning fees and time. How else would he have know this if I was not communicating efficiently? How quickly they forget conversations that we had in detail when it comes down to the wire.
