Around 2/27/24, I called local electricians to get an estimate for an ** charger and garage heater installation. I have 400 amp service with two circuit panels in my garage with plenty of space for extra breakers. I previously had ** chargers installed in other homes in areas with much higher costs of living. In both, it took 2-3 hrs and I was charged $250-300. When I called this electrician's office, the woman was very pleasant. She said that her electricians didn't like to come to residences to give quotes for small jobs but she could give me a ballpark estimate of $600 for the ** charger and up to $400 more for the heater installation if it wasn't very complicated. The work was completed on 3/22/24. I was quite disappointed when I received a bill on 4/1/24 for $1908.52. I called their office and was told that the bill included 11 hrs of labor (5.5 hr each for electrician and apprentice). I told the office staff that the hours charged appeared to be excessive based upon my experience at other locations. I also did an internet search of "how long does it take to install an ** charger?" and read on several sites estimates of 2-3 hrs. I was told to discuss the bill with the owner ***********************. He called me today (4/11/24) to see why I hadn't paid my bill yet. I explained the above to him. He denied that I was overcharged for hours and that it took 11 man hrs to do the work. We had reached an impasse over the bill so I agreed to pay it under protest but told him that I would be filing a complaint with the BBB. At that point he became irate. He threatened to come to my home and tear the ** charger and heater out. Then, he said that he was going to file a lean against my house for the bill and he would blackball me in the community so no one else would do any work for me. I told him that I would document these threats in my complaint to the BBB and he said that he didn't care.
