Terrible automotive parts service. After having all my engine light warnings come on, I had BCAA covered towing to a mechanic. They advised the 355-day old battery was defective and wouldn't hold a charge. To be able to run a diagnostic, and because BCAA won't tow from one mechanic to another mechanic, I had to authorize a new battery. I then paid for extra service checks on the whole electrical system to be sure it was the battery that caused the problem. I then went to Canadian Tire with original receipt, the defective battery, and the paperwork from the mechanic detailing what happened, asking for an in-store credit. The service desk acknowledged the battery was defective, that a replacement battery was of no use, and that I couldn't have brought the battery in for exchange in the circumstances, but said "there's nothing I can do but advocate to my manager." The next day I heard nothing back. I called just before store closing. The auto department rep said the manager suggests I take the new battery and sell it. Cold NO for an in-store credit because it is a "by-the-book" exchange of product. I asked they take the request to HQ because an in-store credit is a reasonable request, whereas suggesting customers re-sell merchandise in the used market as compensation for a warranty is unreasonable and an irrational burden.
