BUYER BEWARE - Beau Peep Farms is disreputable and NOT A HATCHERY Beau Peep Farms is a broker. A very expensive broker. I called looking for adult female Runners and was told I had to place my order online. I called a second time (I wanted to make sure I was getting what I was about to pay for), and was told to order online. I placed an order for 8 female Runners at $40+ per duck. Forty dollars a duck is what I would expect to pay for an adult female Runner. Beau Peep Farms is 8 hours from where I live, so a friend was picking up the ducks for me as I could not get to Beau Peep Farms for my 11:45 appointment time and there was only one pick-up date for ducks. She contacted me once she arrived, gave the phone to *****, and things went downhill from there. ***** only had 5 ducks for us. He then said he'd sub another Runner, a Peking and a Welshie for the 3 he was short. We accepted the Runner and he refunded us for the other 2. Then our friend sent us a photo. She knew the ducks presented to her by ***** were not the adult Runners we were expecting. These were baby ducks, five days old, not adults. The ducks were from ********, not hatched at Beau Peep Farms. ******* sells female Runner ducklings for $17 and ships for free. Why would anyone KNOWINGLY buy them from ***** at $40 per duck? Ducks are notoriously difficult to *** before 3-6 weeks of age, and ***** told me they 'should be about 90% accurate'. I asked for a full refund and ***** refused saying he'd take back the ducklings with no refund other than for the 2 he was short. ***** denied all responsibility for any miscommunication or misrepresentation. I took the 6 ducklings to keep them safe. When I finally listened to the voicemail ***** had left earlier that morning, I learned that he was short on my order of 8 as 3 had died the night before. I then called him; he told me that is a typical death rate due to failure to thrive. **** ** * ******** ***** **** ** ** **********. Please bypass Beau Peep Farms.

It is clearly posted on both of our websites (beaupeepfarms.ca and beaupeepfarms.com) that we are neither a breeder nor a hatchery and that we are brokers / distributors of poultry. We have never grown fowl solely for the purpose of selling it as adults as that is not the business model. In fact, the web page from which you ordered is titled right at the top in big black letters DAY OLD WATERFOWL. You claim that I said we have adults and that you checked a box on the order page saying you wanted ADULTS. I never said such a thing and there is no such box as we do not sell ADULT poultry. I made the offer to you (in writing) asking you to show where on our website it asked / said ADULT and that if you did, I would refund all your money and that you can keep the Runners as this would be a mistake on our part. After being in business for 14 years I know what we sell. As for price being expensive, you told me you have been on Metzer Farms website so you know just how much the cost is for a Runner Duck. What you don't know are the added costs: Health Papers from California cost $160 USD (this is a CFIA requirement to allow importation into Canada). There is also a US border crossing fee for commercial vehicles ($14.99 USD). So far, all prices are in US dollars, so multiply the cost by 1.41 (exchange rate as of Apr 20, 2024) to get the cost in CDN dollars. There is also the CFIA inspection cost of $42 CDN. We cannot forget the fuel cost for the truck to get from Rosedale to Sumas and return as well as our time. Our cost for an Indian Runner Duck is $29.65 CDN and we still have not factored in the cost of the electricity or feed nor the capital cost of the brooder equipment, the property tax on the barn, the cost of bedding, labour or vehicle maintenance and other administration and incidentals. Out of the 35 Runners we brought in, 3 failed to thrive. Luckily we were able to substitute 1 Black Runner for you so you were only short 2 Chocolate Runners for which you were reimbursed. All of our orders are filled on a first come first served basis. If we are short on a breed, the last person picking up that breed will be the one shorted. All of this information and the rest of our policies can be found on our e-commerce website beaupeepfarms.ca. You said that you can get Runner ducks for $5 each. For that cost, I can guarantee that they are not sexed, veterinary health checked and possibly not purebred.
