We were originally scheduled with one of the large national movers but the storage fees for a week were rather high. Less than a week before we were scheduled to move, we decided to see if we could find another moving company to help with our relocation from the Midwest to the east coast. While EkoMovers was about 15% more expensive than the mover we originally contracted, their storage fees for a week were much more reasonable so we decided to engage them for our move. When the movers arrived on Tuesday, November 30th, they arrived in a 26 **Haul that was rented from the local *** Hardware. I had to go pick up packing blankets, plastic wrap and tie down straps. To their credit, the crew of 3 worked quickly and packed the truck in just a few hours. On Wednesday, December 1st, we received a text message from the driver requesting an immediate call back due to an emergency. My wife called the driver who indicated that he had been in an accident shortly after they departed (the day before) and that he was currently in the hospital with a concussion. He was distraught during the call and was not able to provide any further information at the time. My wife then called the ******* EkoMovers office who indicated that they were not aware of any issues with our truck. My wife then called the **************** and advised the receptionist of the circumstances, who indicated that she would look into it and call us back. We received a call from ****** at the ******* office shortly thereafter and were advised that there was no damage and that the truck with our belongings was back on the road enroute to *******. We started to sense that something was wrong at this point but didnt have enough information at the time to form an opinion. On Thursday, December 2nd, I contacted the local *** Hardware where the **Haul truck was rented. The Area Manager advised me that they had received notification that the truck had been in an accident on Tuesday, shortly after departing our home. He advised me that the truck was reported on its side and that a tow truck was required to get the vehicle upright, but he was unable to ascertain the extent of any damages or the exact location of the truck at that time. After speaking with the Regional Manager for *** Hardware, my wife called ****** at the EkoMovers ******* office and was immediately sent to voicemail. She then called the **************** and spoke with ****** who would said she would look into our case. ****** called back and advised us that there had in fact been a minor fender ****** and there was some minor damage to some of our furniture. ****** advised that the truck was in their storage facility and would not be moved again until we arrived in Georgia. On Saturday, December 4th, I was contacted by the *** Hardware Regional Manager and advised that the **Haul truck had sustained substantial damage in the accident (that it did in fact roll over on its side) and had been towed to a yard about an hour north of where we lived. At this point, we had no reason to believe anything that we were being told by EkoMovers and started to prepare for the real possibility that we might have to replace everything we owned. When the truck arrived at our home in Georgia on December 10th we still weren't sure what to expect. When they opened the back of the truck it looked like the truck had been shaken like a snow globe. After the truck was unloaded my wife spent over an hour on the phone with the ******* office who were only interested in one thing, collecting final payment. They eventually agreed to discount our move a little over 10%. I want to emphasize that this is not just about replacing our damaged furniture, I understand that accidents happen. The reason that I am writing this is because the management team lied to us and it wasnt until we started piecing together the story from other sources, that they began to be honest with us. At the end of the day, we lost several pieces of brand-new furniture, as well as a number of other smaller pieces that had sentimental value. The remaining furniture and our new appliances all have cosmetic damage but are still functional. Fortunately, most of our belongings that were packed in boxes made it. 3 weeks later and we still have not been told how to file a claim and EkoMovers just does not respond to calls or emails. As far as I can tell, the management team with the ******* office has zero regard for their customers and a complete lack of integrity. Use them at your own risk.
