Current Alerts For This Business
According to information provided by consumers, "Golden Exotic Pets" has the hallmarks of a pet scam designed to convince online shoppers to wire money for pets they will never ultimately receive. One consumer told BBB "I paid $450 for an animal that I didn't receive" and "Out thousands of dollars... left my kids heartbroken".
The phone number on the business' website is not in service. Mail to 18957 Livernois in Detroit, MI 48221 was returned, marked "not deliverable". BBB contacted a nearby business who confirmed that there is not a pet store at the address. A Google street view photo taken in November 2022 shows the location is vacant.
BBB contacted the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD), who confirmed that breeders and dealers of exotic animals are required to register with the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). Golden Exotics/Golden Exotic Pets is not on the USDA list of active licenses and registrants. MDARD advised prospective buyers to verify USDA license/registration of a prospective breeder/dealer, and contact their municipality or local animal control to determine what, if any, license(s) may be required to lawfully own an exotic animal in their area.
If you are currently in communication with Golden Exotics or Golden Exotic Pets, please *do not* send money to this entity and discontinue communication immediately.
If you have additional information to share with BBB and other consumers about Golden Exotic Pets, please submit a BBB Scam Tracker report at https://www.bbb.org/scamtracker. If you have already sent money to this entity, BBB suggests contacting your bank immediately, then filing complaints to the FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center www.ic3.gov and BBB bbb.org/file-a-complaint.
The USDA offers many resources for animal buyers, breeders, and dealers, including an Animal Care Search Tool, which includes a current list of licensed breeders and dealers, frequently asked questions, and requirements for owning an exotic pet. The USDA encourages prospective buyers to contact their local humane officials or national humane organization for guidance on the appropriate care and handling of exotic animals.
