Lisa Marie Cober, owner of Cober's Canine Rescue, was charged on 1/31/2023 with animal cruelty to 25 or more animals. Her bond was set at $1,000. Cober is due back in court in February. We adopted a dog at 10am; put the dog down at 10pm the same day. The dog threw up twice in the car on the way home, then started to vomit blood shortly after. The dog had parvo, but Cober's Canine refused to admit he was sick (even with veterinary documentation showing the dog was terminally ill). The vaccination records, per Cober's Canine Rescue, showed that this dog received rushed vaccinations. Parvo should be given in a 12-16 week time frame in young dogs, but this dog was given all 3 shots in a 6 week time frame. The dog was also emaciated and smelly upon adopting. He was clearly neglected. If not by Cober's, then Cober's should have nursed him back to health before putting him up for adoption, as that is the whole point of an animal rescue. Cober refused to refund the euthanasia emergency bill, although they refunded the adoption fee. We essentially acted as a euthanasia contractor for this 'rescue'. Also note that the rescue had poor communication throughout the adoption process, and did not respond to emails and did not send any pictures of the dog. They gave conflicting information on age, breed, and why the dog was coming from another state. It was a very sketchy transaction that ultimately ended in tragedy for the poor, innocent pup.

We have apologized multiple times for all this as had we known anything was wrong you would have never met with him or us. This "review" is because you are upset and had this situation but your accusations are those of someone out for revenge due to anger. He did not have parvo and you have no documentation to say otherwise since you declined to have the vet test for parvo. Plus parvo is loose stools, vomiting, not eating, and was not something that would have gone unnoticed. He did not show any signs or symptoms otherwise we would not have adopted a dog to you. Had he had loose stools or been lethargic prior to the meeting or at the meeting we would have stopped and waited to adopt him out. Vaccines are done at a 2-3 week intervals. You also did not email us in any form asking for more photos or more information, you barely communicated anything with us why would we email or call someone who has not messaged us but made an appointment? We did not have an accurate age on the pet nor do we have an accurate age on any pet per our contract it states we cannot guarantee any age of the pet as we can say what we are told per the vet office(s) that see the pets. He was not emaciated he was a fat playful puppy and he was freshly bathed other than urinating in his kennel on the way there. Which you were explained and we did all we could do to clean him in situation. We rescue animals from all over there is no conflicting information. We do what we can for who we can when we can. The animals have access to food and fresh water all day long.

To the general public:There is no reasoning with the unreasonable, therefore this review is just to inform the public to not do 'business' with this 'shelter'. The audacity of a business, let alone a nonprofit, to call any poor review a liar, is unprofessional to say the least, and sad. You can see these nasty replies to other victim's comments, so I expected nothing less. This review is meant to be informative and give justice to the innocent life lost. This business obviously does not care about bad reviews and takes no accountability; the ** rating on BBB and lack of accreditation can prove that. This business reply has multiple lies, as I have a record of the time I reached out for more information/pictures, and I never denied a test for the animal. Also, the animal was young, according to the vet, therefore parvo hits harder and faster. The dog was showing parvo signs immediately upon bringing it home (lethargic, would not eat, vomiting). The good news is that there are good shelters out there - two that have a great reputation and I have personal experience with are '*********************' and 'Makenzie's Animal Shelter'. Unfortunately, I did not learn about these shelters until after this tragic experience, as I now refuse to adopt a dog from a shelter that does not have a good reputation with the public. So if you are here, you did your homework, and now you know that this 'shelter' is not the place for you to explore, as you would surely end up back on this site trying to warn others. Good luck with your adoption search!
