I was a new patient to Kalamazoo Optometry and after dealing with billing issues I will never go back. Vision exams are covered in full with my vision insurance carrier for which I had given KalOpt the information to bill. So as a new client I was required to fill out a bunch of paperwork including health history, I was completely honest and told them everything they asked. When I saw the Dr I verbally told him about my medical eye issues and explained why I only wanted him to check my vision and I would see my ophthalmologist the following month for all my medical eye problems, to which he agreed and as requested checked only my vision Two months after the appointment I get a bill because they sent a bill to my medical insurance instead of my vision insurance. I checked the bill and they billed for the services that I said I did not want and that were not preformed. When I called and spoke to the manager she told me that they were legally obligated to bill my medical insurance because of my medical eye issues even if they did not do anything other than check my vision. They refused to bill my vision insurance. They billed my medical insurance for things that were never done. All the information that they gathered was from the form I truthfully filled out and me verbally describing my medical eye issues to the optometrist not by any examination, diagnosis, discussion from the Dr or treatment plan. So I am being taken advantage of and either penalized for telling the truth or for having medical issues. If I had not been truthful and not divulged my info they would have given the same vision exam and billed my vision insurance which would have paid in full. Since when do businesses feel it is right to charge for services not rendered. They expect me to pay for something that was never done because I was honest. They lie to get more money. Terribly dishonest and they refuse to correct it. Bad billing practices and horrible customer service by the manager.
