Racial discrimination at Associated supermarket I am writing to share an unacceptable experience I went through at Associated Supermarket, located at *********************************************************. On Monday, December 4, 2023, I was a victim of racial discrimination by one of the security guards, who held me accusing me of stealing after I had paid at the cash register. Despite the cashier's affirmation that all was out & paid, the security Gard persisted in harassing and accusing me until my husband arrived. The cashier who was use to see me, was also shocked and apologized to me for this embarrassing situation.My family and I have been residing in the neighborhood for over three years, and this is the first time I have faced such shockingly uneducated, racist behavior.It has deeply shocked and disturbed me, especially in the heart of Brooklyn, to be targeted by injustice based on my skin color. The cashier was in a process of packing my shopping bag when the security gard intervened, preventing me from leaving and subjecting me to public humiliation with verbal abuse solely based on prejudices related to my skin color. Despite being asked to provide evidence from the store surveillance, he failed to produce any proof.My intention in sharing this experience is not only to denounce the injustice I endured but also to draw the urgent need for awareness and training to prevent such incidents in the future. I request that appropriate measures be taken to address this situation and ensure protocols are in place to prevent other customers from experiencing similar harassment and discrimination. My husband later spoke to the manager, who did not appear to take the case seriously, care much or even understand the issue.I hope that my testimony contributes to raising awareness of the issue of racial discrimination at Associated Supermarket and prompts concrete steps to be a demonstrably active and responsible part of fostering an inclusive environment in the neighborhood.
