Please, carefully read the timeline below. Pay special attention the statements following the *** at the very end.
Before March 2021: Vision was fine.
3-4-21: Woke up with lots of blood in the right eye. I called Dr. G*********'s office. They said: "Don't worry, it's nothing. No need to come in."
3-5-21: Woke up with thousands of tiny floaters & a thick squiggly line. Immediately made an appointment with Dr. G*********.
3-11-21: Dr. G********* said: "Eye is in perfect health, no inflammation. Although, there's a highly elevated chance of tears and detachment. I'm going to schedule your appointments very close to each other so that I can watch for tears."
4-12-21: Dr. G********* Said: "Retina still looks very healthy. Nothing to worry about. No inflammation. Vision-wise you're seeing very well."
4-30-21: Dr. G********* checked both eyes again for floaters and tears. Said: "both eye in excellent shape. No tears, no detachment. Just keep coming back so that I can watch for tears."
5-5-21: (Five days later), A dark curtain appeared in the right eye. I immediately went back. Dr. G********* said: "You have a major retinal detachment, we must have missed a tear or two, but your LEFT EYE is in great shape."
He told me to go to an specialist that he knows very well (Dr. R******). I told him that I Googled that specialist. He just started his business 2 years ago and he's very young. Alarmingly he, his office manager, a technician and an optician took turns telling me "NO, you absolutely have to see him only. He is very good. He is the only one who can do this surgery. Do not see anyone else." Remember that Dr. R****** is not in question here. He did his job.
5-5-21: I immediately left Dr. G********* and saw his friend, Dr. R****** in 10 minutes (about a mile away). *** After 1/2 hour of seeing Dr. G*********, Dr. R****** said: "NO, Dr. G********* must have known about the MANY tears in the RIGHT eye at least 3 to 4 months ago." *** "ALSO, the LEFT eye has so many tears that I lost count. That one needs to be lasered immediately or you WILL get a detachment at any moment now."
5-6: VITRECTOMY surgery on the RIGHT eye.
5-7: LASER surgery on the LEFT eye.
End of Aug.: Vitrectomy gas bubble in the right eye finally gone.
11-18: CATARACT surgery because Vitrectomy causes cataracts (I'm only 57).
In about a week: YAG surgery has to be done to finish the cataract surgery.
Now: Need to wear 2 different glasses, but still can not see the computer screen. Vision is severely reduced, can not drive at night (halos, wavy lines and so on), can not work properly, can not do my several volunteer work any more, can not perform normal tasks, fell down many times, afraid to drive, chances of it happening again since detachment has happened once is very high now. I spent almost $12,000 and for ever have to spend more (aftermath of these surgeries).
All of this could have definitely be avoided.
*** Dr. G********* missed the tears initially. As he admits now, he didn't even bother to take ANY scans, no OCT, no photos, nothing!
*** He could have easily detected the tears in BOTH eyes back in March. Lasered the tears in 5 minutes and none of the above would have happened.
*** If he DID take scans and photos, where are they? Have they been destroyed?
*** If he did NOT take scans, why not when he had a "high risk patient" who had to keep coming back for checkups?
*** Look at how close he scheduled my appointments. That alone shows you that he knew I was at risk, but just didn't care.
*** How could he not see the tears in the LEFT eye just 1/2 hour before Dr. R****** saw them?
He must have done this to other patients. Most people don't realize it and just go on not thinking that HE was negligent and could have stopped their suffering.
I have also contacted several other government agencies.
Thank you.
