Had someone from Chimney Mechanix come out to inspect our chimney last year when we bought our house, they had minor recommendations but nothing major. The previous owner also had them come out and was told everything was in working order. This year I had them come out and clean and inspect it again. The kid that came out wasn’t overly knowledgeable and couldn’t provide details on what repairs were needed but said not to use either of our wood burners. Ti top it off they left soot and coals all over my basement. He did have a lot to say about the previous employee that came out, none of it positive or professional. I then received a bid for 13k. When I asked how 13k in repairs were needed in such a short time frame I was told the previous employee no longer works for them and must have not done the inspection properly. This was not reassuring in any way. How can I trust that the current employee is any different? When reviewing the bid and materials list I found an over 700% mark up on some items. I’ve included pictures of last years inspection and this years inspection.

Good afternoon ******. Let me start with the prices that we charge. The materials that we use come from Chimney suppliers and vendors. We use companies that specialize in providing the products that we need to do any of our jobs. The cost of labor is figured into the prices that we charge the customers. There are several factors figured into the cost of items. (Time, how much of the product we are going to use, set-up of ladders and other equipment, how many people we need on the job, height, width, length, etc.) As far as your concerns go when we were at your property in April of 2022 and did 1 inspection. Which means we only looked at 1 of your systems not both. At that time minor repairs were quoted. As you have been using the systems damage could have occurred in almost 2 years of use. For the previous customer we were there in 2020 and again only performed 1 inspection. Which system was inspected again is not specified. As far as the technician being young and new yes, he is. Which is why he asked our lead technician to help him with the quote when he got back that day. I will also be talking to the technician about leaving a mess behind and being unprofessional on the jobsite. I completely agree with you that bad mouthing a former employee is not a good way to continue a business relationship with any company. If you could call or email me directly or the lead technician we would like the opportunity to correct the mistakes that were made and discuss in depth with you what we see from the pictures the technician took at your property.
